Any predictions on the bay area housing market in the next 10 years?

Additional Details
Do you think houses will be more expensive in 10 years than now?

DAVID C
Well, many factors will affect the home price, but in general, I think the price will continue to go up in selective areas. Despite the current downturn, Million dollar+ homes in areas like cupertino, palo alto, fremont mission area are still increasing, The rich don't have to sell during a down market to drive price down. In east bay like oakland and hayward, prices are down because there are more subprime borrowers in those areas. This cause prices to drop but there are still a lot of people with good jobs & cash sitting on the sideline, waiting for price to stablize, once those buyers are willing to re-enter the market, prices will go up.

Also, bay area is one of the nicest area in the world, the weather is good, and they still have good paying jobs. Unless our gov't policy drive away more jobs, I would think bay area is a good long term play.

it think it is shifting. i think it may go down in the years to come. but very slowly. i mean the weather is getting worse so people may not want to live here. I want to move to far northern california, im so sick of expensive crap bay area!

Bronwen
Prices are going to continue to go up.

Right now prices are down a bit, but that particular area is still one of the most expensive in the US. If you want to really live in the Bay Area, and not out in Stockton, or up by Sacramento, you will find that real estate just keeps getting more expensive, because there's nowhere left to expand.

The market may fluctuate up or down, but that area will continue to get more and more expensive. I have been watching it for 30 years now, and that's been the one and only constant.

For me the fact that it is situated in an earthquake prone location is enough for me not to want to buy there.
