Apartment Manager Embarressed me horribly...?
Today my apartment manager came knocking on my door like if she was the police, I had company over and so when I answered and saw it was her I closed the door behind me and stepped outside, she asked what the delay for the rent was, and so I explained the situation to her and she snapped "That's not good enough, it's the 9th and if you don't have your rent by Saturday then you will be evicted." I was just like "ok." she was so loud all my neighbors heard it, I dont even want to come outside my guests heard her. is there any action I could do? isnt this considered something that makes you look bad? deflamation of charactar? because she made everyone in my complex look at me like i was a loser, and can she really do the eviction its only the 9TH!! My former complex would only do this if it was past the 20th or so but I had my rent and late charges paid for in full what can I do? I live in Texas.
Additional Details
The rent is technically only 6 days late, this is the fist time I have ever been late in this complex, anyways I explained my situation and SHE SNAPPED at me I think it's because I'm only 19 and she sees me and a little kid or something, I didnt see her snap at anyone else like that...

first off - your landlady sounds as though she has alot of issues, and it was not very professional of her to berate you like she did.
do you have a lease with this complex? what are the terms? is this the first time that you have been late with the rent at this complex? try to speak with her calmly on her turf and explain your circumstances.
i don't think that there is anything you can do legally against her, but i would try to find out what your rights are as a renter in your town/county/state as they are different everywhere.

Pay your rent on time and avoid the late charges and the threats of eviction as well as avoiding embarrassing confrontations with the apartment manager.

D S
It's intimidation, she wanted to put the pressure on you to pay your rent. Some managers have class and some don't.

I was an apartment manager and I never had to threaten anybody. When you signed your rental agreement it stated that if you did not pay your rent on time, there were two consequences. One you would pay the rent plus late charges. Two if rent was not paid on time and it was a pattern, you would received a notice to pay or quit. In English this means pay on time or the eviction process will begin. You do not want an eviction notice on your credit record.

You know the rules and you are in the wrong when you do not pay on time. The owner does not care what your personal problems are, they want the rent money to pay their mortgage payments.

I would suggest that maybe you find a cheaper apartment or work out a budget plan so you can have two months of rent money reserved so this will not happen again.

FOR the 1,298th time I say to you and everyone else with an apartment question, "READ THE LEASE"! I think there are a few different issues here.

1) In your lease it tells you the date your rent is due. It tells you where to pay it and how much. It also tells you the grace period for being late and how you are charged late fees. It tells you when you will be served with an eviction notice if you don't pay.

2) You have had run ins with the manager before or she would not have acted in the way she did when she knocked on your door. She would have sent you a late notice.

3) She didn't do anything wrong. She was attempting to collect the rent for the people she works for. You also mentioned your previous complex and that you were late paying your rent there too. This is, evidently, something that you do quite often.

4) If you don't want to be embarrassed in the future, pay your rent on time.

sexytrojan
YOU were wrong. Your rent is due on a certain day and you did not honor that. She most certainly is within her right to kick you out.

Do you understand that she has bills to pay? Her taxes, mortgage, utilities and maintenance charges are due and in January they are the highest.

Truth is defense against any charge of libel or slander, so if you really were late with the rent, you have no legal remedy.

Are you 5 years old? She wasn't Ms. Polite... and i'm sure it rubbed you the wrong way.. but so what. Laugh it off and pay your rent on time.

Jnine
She should have been more tactful, this was unreasonable. You need to contact the owners and file a complaint. Ask them what their policy is when the rent is late. Explain yourself for the late rent, but assure them rent will be on time. Are you late on rent a lot? If this was the first time you were late they will be more understanding and leniant than if you are constantly late.
When your rent is going to be late you need to let the manager know as soon as YOU know, not make her wait and wonder. It is her responsability to make sure the rent gets to her boss on time. Step in her shoes a moment. She did take it too far, though. She should have called you or left a SEALED note on your door. This is the proper way to handle non-payment of rent. By the way, this time of year you are not the only one paying rent late! (I just paid mine today.) Things happen, everyone knows that.
Kill her with kindness by writing her a thank you note with the rent, "Thank you so much for reminding me the rent was late. I am so sorry, 'such and such happend' and I could not make it until my next check." I hope things settle down and the manager is more understanding in the future. Maybe it was a bad day for her. Maybe the owners were getting on her about ALL the tenants who hadn't paid rent yet. I'm guessing it wasn't just you, she just took it out on you. Good luck, and pay your rent asap!

Girl, you need to pay your rent. Ain't no how that manager be outside her rights.

(:♥TayLee♥:)
That was VERY unprofessional of her, she should have given you a written notice, there was no call for her coming and announcing it to the whole neighborhood. I don't know if there is any thing legal that you can do about it but it sure might be worth looking into. Sounds like you may live in the same place I do, I'm in TX also.
