It is a deposit. It needs to be either applied to the security deposit or refunded to you upon move in. |

Normally it is applied to the security deposit, sometimes to rent. ASK the landlord how it is applied. |

yes, they have to, or else they need to give you back your money. I've moved into 5 different apartments in the last 3 years so I know the ropes;)....good luck with the move |

It depends on what it was for. If it was a deposit to hold the apartment, then it should become part of your security deposit. If it was a fee to run the credit report and process the paperwork, then it would be non refundable. It should have said on your application, you will have to ask them. |

Didn't you get a contract or receipt when you gave them the deposit? That should tell you. |

Probably...but then again it could have been used for administration fees (credit report/back round check). You need to ask them. |

This is dependent on the apartment company, but normally the hold fee is reduced from either the security deposit or the first rent due. I've seen it done both ways, but I believe reducing the first rent is more common. |

Some companies use that $ 100 for application fee and re-decorating fee, You need to ask. Everything should have been explained to you when you applied for the apartment. |
