Are landlords aloud to splice your phone line?
Yeah... so for a few months now I have been hearing someone pick up another line while I am on the phone and my hubs at work. My landlord lives above me. I will test the line by clicking "flash" to click over while I am on the phone, and although I have call waiting nothing happens- because someone is on another line. I went in the laundry room and saw something that said "Telephone Splice". It had cords coming out of it, going into my apt and also up into his. My apt is totally private, and I pay for my own phone service. He has his own phone service as well, but has the line spliced to eavesdrop on me during conversations. I had the service set up after I moved in, specifically for my private use. What rights do I have if in fact the phone company comes to my home and gives me a statement saying that the line is spliced and my privacy had been invaded for months?

Also, I used to see him every single day. He used to literally sit outside of my door daily to see what was going on in my life. Since he has developed this habit of listening to my calls, I haven't seen him one time since. Another way I know this is going on is because I had my husband call the house line with the ringers off and I listened to the landlord walk directly above me to the area where the spliced line leads up to, following by hearing him pick the phone up. I then had my husband call from a cell phone to beep in, and as I tried to click over it didn't work because the landlord was still on another phone on the same line.

Oh KT, This girl is not a good thing. You have to call the phone company and have them come out to check it out. Show them what you and your husband did to prove this. have them get you a copy. Then go straight to the police station. This landlord is not a good one, I can tell you that. Thats straight up crazy. You have to get this done and go file a report on this. He's tapped your line and is ease dropping on your conversations. Call the phone company on your cell phone so your landlord doesn't get suspisious and go fix the line. Thats just nuts. I would hang him out to dry for that. But be prepared to possibly move. But you know what? I would do that anyways. Sounds like a Fruitloop, especially sitting outside your door before this. It may even come down to stalking in a certain sense. You see where I'm coming from?

Definitely call the police... and from a different phone.

Amy
Yep, call the police, a lawyer, the phone company, tell everyone you know what he is doing.
Then move as soon as possible.

No, Landlord not allowed to splice in your phone
Eavesdrop on someone else phone is illegal in Canada and US
don't know other country
to be sure ask the phone company to come in and test your line for you
Even COPS need a court order to listen in your phone

Report him to the police and phone company immediately.

Report "problems" to the phone company and let them inspect and give you a written report. Then take the report to the police. Tapping phone lines, without a court order, is illegal.

this is illegal in every nearly every country. File a police report immediately -- this guy [landlord] is, in essence, stalking you.

then petition the proper court for a protective order against this jerk.

and then move, and then sue him in your local courts to get out of your lease.

Bubbles
WOW- call the phone company and then call the police if the line is sliced. You need to move!

Refinnejisme
no theyre not allowed to do that,i mean you pay for your own service..
this guys creepy.call the cops or have your husband talk to the landlord?

Avi
It is fairly illegal for a landlord to do anything that isn't in the contract. Report the splice to the authorities and have them check it out.

btwitkin
I would call the police today. It is illegal and if they see proof he can be arrested on the spot. He also cannot kick you out due to a legal issue like this, though I don't know why you would want to stay there
