Are you for or against public housing?
Serious answers only. Do you agree with housing assistance with low income residents? Should drug testing be mandatory? It's a big issue in New Orleans.

I agree. With the help of government assistance there should be some accountability for the road to recovery. Some people have many children and are as single family house hold. In order to better establish government housin g assitance, there should be more than just drug testing.Tthere should monthly monitoring of household income (i.e. W2's and their household utilities in comparison. To see if their monthly income can cover not only their housing but their utlities as well. People should be proving that they are able to improve upon their life styles.) With getting this type of handout and assistance there should be steps to ensure that their finances are improving and they are able to keep current with monthly bills as well as being drug free.

it is sad that many times public housing is breeding ground for criminals.

I am for it but with much, much, much stricter guidelines

Cookie On My Mind
Only if they are going to be in apartments. I can't stand it when I see people on gov't assistance living in a three bedroom house that's nicer than what I have and I work full time.

you have a choice

provide public housing for low income residents

or

let them freeze on the street

are you civilised

or

are you not?

Yes, but no free rides. Everyone who can work, should work and a reasonable portion of their income should go towards housing. Not so much that it breaks them, not so little that they can be lazy.
Rather than give drug tests, maybe we should keep out violent and predatory criminals.

And, anyone on public assistance, should have mandatory birth control. Stop breeding them if you can't feed em.

On the con side, public housing allows employers to underpay their workers. It can be a form of corporate welfare.

I thoroughly agree with public housing. BUT I think it should only be for a minimal amount of time.

I know a buddy of mine that utilized a housing assistance program when he got his first apartment. It allowed him to move out on his own, while going to college and getting a better education for his future.

I think it's especially important in low income areas so that children born into low income or drug addicted families have a chance to better their life. In the past, they may have been stuck in the situation because they couldn't afford to get out of the situation.. NOW they can thanks to public housing assistance.

I think I would limit it to a few years. It gives teenagers a chance to get into college and get a decent job before having to take on the responsibility of a high rent cost. (It also gives families that lost their primary source of income have somewhere to go while they rebound).

I don't live in America but I am for public housing for low income residents, let's face it, otherwise they and their family would be on the streets. I'm also for training those low income adults to have a skill of some kind and give them a push out of their poverty. After all, a country is only as strong as its weakest link.

I am for low income housing. I think they should have mandatory drug testing to maintain residence within the system. We have low income housing here in Indiana. It works. The prblem comes in with those on disability. They have to hand over 30 percent of what their disabily check over for rent. Not right at all considering the higest paid disablity check is just a hare over 500 dollars a month. I think if someone is listed as disabled thier housing should be free. They arn't given enough in this life and we take more from them.

Yes, I agree with housing assistance for low income residents, and no, drug testing should not be mandatory, sadly, some people with children will test positive, but if they are fit parents in every other way, their children still deserve a safe place to live.

I am for public housing. although I think it is not controlled enough. It should only be available to citizens and LEGAL immigrants.

I would agree to the drug testing, it would weed out who is low income by choice and who by situation, as most druggies have no desire to work and have no disabilities that are not of their own choosing. If they have children, the children should be removed from their custody and put into the foster care program, where they have a better chance of living a decent life.

i agree with the public housing. everyone needs help along the way. i also agree with the drug testing. and with these people they should offer things to help them get out of housing. job skills, counseling if needed. don't just leave them there. help them get out so that more people can utilize the help. that's why the homeless rate is so bad. they have no place to go besides a shelter.
