25 is the cut off, it costs too much to insure cars if they allow anyone younger to drive them, just ask your parents.

You might try a private car rental, not a franchise, like Hertz, but some local company.

Anthony
In most state you have to 21 and some are 25. In NY you have to be 18 only. PLus Valid Credit Card

You can't rent a car at all until you're 21, usually 25.

Because when you're so much more likely to wreck a car when you're 18 versus when you are 21. When you can buy alcohol.

Go figure.

towanda
Do you know the cost of renting and insurance? There may be a reason freshmen can't own cars and renting may not be allowed either. I'll bet it's parking problems or something but be sure to ask the powers that be if you can rent one before you do.

Queen_B
normally you have to be atleast 21 to rent any car..

new_york_greatest
nope not really...i tried when ii was 18 and they wanted my parents signature.....so do what i did and just by a used car from a used car lot

I think some companies like Hertz do, but you might have to be older, or something. Or, you could rent from a friend or family member who has a spare car.

Angie
Most car rental firms won't rent to someone under 21 and usually they require 25.
