Only with them 3 months (Good career move) haha! To my understanding anyone can apply for council housing. There are exception through things like, if you already own a house and rent it out, you would not be allowed to have a council house. Being unemployed will not make you eligible or ineligible for housing your case will be taken on your merits, such as, is where you live overcrowded? Do you have small children? Are you in danger from violence? But you are as entitled to a house as the rest of us. Perhaps Shelter can help. They deal in housing issues of all kinds not just street homeless. The number is: 0808 800 4444 |

Anyone is entitled to a council house - you simply need to put your name on the list and await your turn - however, the difficulty is in being able to maintian or gather enough points to place you ahead of all the other people also waiting for a council house......................
...............you are literally talking years, not months, weeks, or days.
There are so many one parent families being placed in hostels or B & Bs due to the shortage of council housing.
The best of luck to you. |

You can apply to go on to the council housing register anyone can do that and once they get the forms they then award points and the more points you have better chance you have of being housed. However it does not mean they will offer you a house it may be a flat.
They will want to know why you want to move so your rent is high could be one reason and your disablity another you get more points for disability.
You do not have to be unemployed to apply anyone can also if you are signing on you will get help paying that rent depending on wifes earnings and sons.
So yes you can apply you just need to go and fetch forms which are long and boring to fill in. |

We have been waiting for a house for over 10 years so you will be really lucky if you do.
Apply for housing benefit and a council tax rebate. That is the best you will get. |

anyone can put their name down for a council house but the waiting lists are long.
With your wife earning what she does, she will most likely be expected to support you and you will not be a priority for a council house, especially if your son is working too.
IBS would not require you to need a "disabled friendly" form of housing so I doubt you would get up the waiting list any quicker.
You may be entitled to help with your rent though and you should check this out at your local DSS office. |

Hi
I work for Housing Beneifts. If you and your wife are living as husband and wife then you will not be able to claim anything at all because of her earnings.
If you are living in the same house but are separated you can claim JSA, you can only claim housing benefit if your name is on the tenancy agreement and council tax benefit if you are liable for this, if you are separated you will only be able to claim 50% of your rent for your half of the property. However you may get a visit from your benefit office to make sure you are separated.
As you have just finished work and have worked for more than 26 weeks you can claim contribution base JSA which is payable for 26 weeks based on your NI contributions whil you were working, you can claim this regardelss of if you are separated or not. |

Getting a council house is not down to whether you are claiming benefits, you may be entitled to Housing Benefit/Council Tax benefit although it is unlikely as your wife is earning £1k. Are you receiving Tax credits, if not I suggest you do so immediately, If you are planning on signing on you would probably need to claim conts only as your wife may be earning too much for you to receive income based jobseekers and any money your son has coming in would be taken into account aswell. |

are you black or foreign? if not then you have no chance!!.. but you could always go down the homeless route and the council have to rehouse you at some point, as long as you dont have any housing rent arrears you should be ok. best bet is applying through every housing assocation in your chosen areas and just wait. the council usualy have homes ready to let. but these are normally in realy bad areas. |

I don't think you would be entitled to a council house as eligibility for council houses are usually based on number of rooms you need, or inappropriate current housing rather than how much you earn! Why not give it a try though, no harm in being on the waiting list! |
