It's sensible to buy a million dollar house with a hundred thousand dollar salary if you can get it for half a million.
Most lenders will finance buyers whose monthly house payment (including loan payment, property taxes, and insurance) will not exceed 28% of their gross monthly income. This is your total monthly expense including housing, credit card minimum payments, loans, and all other debts. Usually lenders expect this total ratio to fall below 36% of gross monthly income.
If you have little or no debt than you have a good chance of getting it otherwise you start looking for something cheaper. (I'm guessing your payments would be around $7,000.00 a month. Can you afford it?)

With only at a $100,000 a year you should look for a home in the $250,000 to $350,000 range.

The mortgage on a 1,000,000 home would be around $8300. a month @ 30 years. this does not include all of your utilities and what not.

the standard rule of thumb is to go 2 1/2 to 4 times your yearly salary

i'm sure you are kidding. A 100k income qualifies you for a 275,000 to 300,000 house. MAX. I would recommend 250,000.

To own a 1 million house, your income should be around 400,000 min.

The larger a house, the more money it takes to run it.

If you make 100k a year even 150k a year.. unless you have like 700k to put down, you aren't going to qualify for the loan! No, a million dollar house on your salary is not realistic.

Yea possible, 100k a year will be enough, but remember interest will build up because you dont earn 100k straight away, so your weekly wage of maybe 2000 will just be paying for interest.

Ooh, look at me, I own $100K, aren't I good? If you earn that much you can go and pay for good advice, professional advice. Why are you on here?????

Just follow your instincts. Is this what you want for yourself? It sounds like you are doing a great thing, to me. Alot of people would want to have the money to do something like that. Besides, who knows, maybe one day you will have a family to move into that house.

so if you dont have a wife..what are you going to do with that kind of house..very expensive but will you be happy staying alone in that huge house..Well if you have the means go for it..But be wise in buying.Because i think in buying a house the ambiance must be serene and suits your personality.God bless.

The wife thing doesn't matter, but is that where you want to stay? If you were to meet a woman who was the one in the next year or so and she wanted to live two hours from there what would you do? Just thought I'd ask since buying is more permanent and your looking at a lot of debt if it were to turn bad, but if your happy there and your financial situation is secure (the amount of money you make isn't all that important its how well you can manage it) then get the house that you want not one you settle for. This site has nice calculator that figures in any monthly expenses you have as well as how much you make and gives you an estimated price you what to look for. I hope it helps good luck!!!http://www.bankrate.com/brm/calc/newhouse/calculator.asp
