Buying a house in Ca.?
hey all i am moving from new york to LA CA. And I was thinking it might be cheaper to buy a small little nice house then rent. But I don't know where to buy and where to look or what cities to look in that are nice and safe I don't has a lot of money to buy a huge house maybe something in the 250 area does anyone have any advice?

You are going to need twice that amount almost ANYWHERE in California and possibly even more in LA in order to live in a decent neighborhood. There just isn't anywhere to tell you to go. Sorry. I live in So. CA and the house I live in was a repo and was twice that amount in an okay neighborhood.

most of California is expensive.

try buying far away from the big cities.

Try looking at Realtor.com or calling local Real Estate Agents. However, I don't think your going to be able to afford a small house for only 250k in CA.

Good Luck

I agree with previous posters - $250k will not buy you a single family residence in Los Angeles....even one that is 600sq ft :-(

Even the outskirts are pricey - places that used to be affordable because no one wanted to live there and commute into town for work. Now those areas (i.e. the inland empire) are not very affordable either.

My advice is don't move. Like others have said, you will not get anywhere near LA for $250,000. You can try Riverside county to get a home for $250,000. The commute is expensive and takes a lot of time. You can ride the train if your job in LA if it is close to a train stop.

If you need something in the 250k range......you will not be buying anywhere near a large city area. There are houses in the 250 k range in areas outside bigger areas.

For example a 45 minute drive East from SF will get you homes in the 300 starting range but those are the bottom end in not the best neighborhood. Better if condo or townhome.

45 mins North of Sac you can find homes in the 250k range....older, smaller but there are homes in Ca in that range
or a townhome in a gated community. Just not in the cities.

You can do the search from my website. I am a local agent so let me know what's up after all.

250 won't get you jack in LA....you need more than that for a house. You might be able to get a studio, but that's about it....at least in a nice neighborhood.

You should rent until you know where your job is. Traffic is horrible during rush hour. You might be able to find a condo for $250.

Since you ahe never lived there and are just starting a job then why the rush to buy? Move out there and rent first to decide where you want to live, what you can afford and wo you need to know to build a team to find the best place to buy at the best price in the right area. There is no way to find the team you need to ge the best deal you can when yo are in NY looking in LA. Rent for 6 months then see if buying is a good idea or not. House prices are going down so the longer you wait the better for now and I do not think the market in LA is going to turn in less then 2 years so take your time.
