About once a month, I get a call from somebody who has either purchased or is thinking about purchasing land off of ebay. I happen to work in an area that have land for $1,000 an acre or less, and that seems to attract potential investors.
What I have commonly found is that the seller either knows nothing or claims to know nothing about the property. Generally, these parcels are remote, don't have year 'round access, do not have deeded easement to the property or are in an area zoned that is challenging to ever develop.
Buyer beware. |

As Sonia has already said, check out their feedback on eBay and see what other buyers have said. Although, keep in mind that this feedback is done directly after the initial transaction has completed.
Many of these people sell you the land on monthly payments for a contractual period of time for many years and there is no way of knowing what may transpire a few years down the road between the seller and buyer. If you buy the land, make some payments and then decide you do not want it, the seller will keep your payments and sell it to another buyer. This has happened before.
These sellers may pick up the land cheap from county auctions and list it on an auction site giving you the impression of a great deal. The sellers of the land are making money from your monthly payments over the years by using your payments to pay property taxes, road fees, etc. Your name may not even be on the deed until a final payment is made.
For example, if your final purchase price if for $9,000 plus interest you could very well end up paying more than 15k for a piece of land that the seller bought for 5k at the county property auction held every year for the county the land is located within.
You may wish to visit the site of the land and make a determination if you wish to invest in the land. After all, there is a reason it was up for sale in the first place. It could have been logged, it may be in an undesirable area, it may be in a severe winter area with difficult access at times. Plus, if you buy the land and wish to build upon it the costs will be several times above and beyond the cost of the land. I am not attempting to discourage you, I'm just trying to give you the facts of what to expect. Good luck. |

Look at their feedback and how many items the person has sold. And then get in touch with the person thats selling the land and just talk to them a bit. If you think they are a bad person just don't buy the land but if you think that they are a good person GO FOR IT!!!!!! |

I would call the courthouse of the district where the land is located and make sure the seller owns the land and the description matches the current title and legal description. It is not surprising though that the land would be cheap, a lot of people need money right now and land is not selling. I have even bought something as risky as a car unseen off of eBay and it was the best purchase of my life. $30,000 Range Rover for $8,000, but I looked at a lot of pictures and did my homework. Just Be Very Cautious! |

you should not be buying land on-line in the first place, first of all because pay-pal only insures up to $2000 and who's to say he did not take a picture of some random piece of land. Fraud is quite prevalent with such stuff on eBay. |
