California can be beautiful...I love it since I was born and raised here...but we're leaving it for the beautiful Beaches of Hawai'i...If you have DEEP pockets someplace like Napa Valley is a great place to raise kids as well as some parts of Northern Cali. But not Los Angeles (So. Cal)...Too Crowded.Too Polluted. TOO Violent. And WAYYYY TOOOO expensive.(unless you have the kind of finances to live someplace like Laguna or Malibu)

Unless you have employment waiting, it is NOT a good idea. High cost of living.

I've lived up and down the coast (now in Eureka in the very north end). California is very expensive, but you can find very beautiful and less expensive places to live in Oregon, and be on the coast as well, although if you go an hour inland, the housing is still cheaper. The job market in Calif. is very tight. I have one son in San Diego who is out of work, but also have a son in Seattle who had no trouble finding work, inexpensive housing, etc.

I grew up in California and I love it very much, but it is very expensive. Move to Colorado instead. Colorado is just like California, but mountains instead of Ocean and much much cheaper.

Before you consider CA as a new home please read up on the economy. Schools are in trouble. Very high cost of living. Read the unemployment rates. It is a beautiful place, ya just can't afford to live here.

It really depends on your specific situation. Do you have a job lined up? If not, does one of you have a good degree that will help you get a good job easily, or lots of experience (like 5 to 10 years) in a field that pays well? If you don't have a job lined up, start applying. Be willing to fly out for interviews so you have a job lined up. It can be difficult to get a job when you don't already live here, so if you want to find one after you move here you should have 6 months of living expenses saved up. Be prepared to pay AT LEAST $1300/month rent in a major city like L.A. or San Francisco for a livealbe apartment. Much more for a nice place.

If you don't have enough money saved or a good paying job, then don't do it. You'll end up broke and stuck.

If you can afford it, then yeah - California is nice. I live in Los Angeles, I used to live in San Diego. I like it here. I have 2 little kids, too. There's a lot to do, the weather is nice. We love living near the beach. But its crowded, traffic is horrible and the air is poluted. Not to mention how expensive it is.

I agree with the other poster - the cost of living in California can be killer. You will both have to work and that means you will need to find trustworthy and reliable child care provider. It is very difficult to be on your own with such a small child but if you have good prospects here it could work fo you. Good Luck!

depends what you want, if been to a lot of other states and counties and california is deffinatly the only place to live in my opinion. But its all about what your into, what you do for work, etc. How much money you have, what you can sell your house for and all that matters. Its a great time to buy, cuz houses are CHEAP, check out realtor.com. for some ideas.

i think it s a great place to live since i been here my whole live i just think you shouldnt live in SoCal if you a have a baby
