bluehomelover | Can I be evicted for non payment of rent? |
My rental utilities are combined with my neighbors ,our land lord will not let us have a copy of the bill. we know our utilities have doubled since last year.i also have bees living in my living room walls & they do not plan on taking them out. They left big holes in my bedroom and we fixed them. Now to top it off my biggest fear in life are bees ,& wasps made a nest by my front door so I was too scared most of the time to go home until it was dusk.|Still no help from the landlord. They also promised to have the water & electric co. come out & check why the bills are so high, still no help. |

Yes, you can be evicted for nonpayment of rent. However, your landlord owes you (in exchange for that rent) acceptable living conditions.
Contact your local housing authority to get questions regarding the bee issue because I don't think it's acceptable. What if you or someone visiting you is allergic to bee stings? Someone could die!
As for the utilities... I'm not sure they can charge you without seeing a copy of the bill, and why on God's green earth are you and your neighbors utlity bills combined? what if you're never home and the neighbor is and has the AC on all day? You're going to pay for the neighbors AC? I wouldn't. Is that a part of the lease?
Before looking for another place to live, which I hope you will do ASAP... get that bee issue resolved!
By the way, I would send you landlord notice of the bees and wasps in writing via certified mail ASAP too. Document the fact that you notified him of the problem... any problem really. This is important in case you have to prove to the housing authority, court, whoever that you told him and it doesnt become a he said/she said. Any communication with landlords should be in writing... it's called CYA (cover your a**). Haven't you ever watched "The People's Court"? |

i would go and see an attorney... your landlord is refusing to clean up a unhealth and not safe property.. |

No, not unless these problems are corrected. |

Why not just move out because your landlord is a loser? If they won't let you see the bills, that is fishy. If they won't get rid of a bee infestation, that is disgusting. Utilities have risen since last year (you know - inflation) but mine certainly have not doubled. If he wasn't hiding something, he would show you the bills. So, yes, you can get evicted for not paying rent. But I think the best option is to just find a better apt. |

yes you can be evicted for that. once you receive a notice from the court - your landlord CAN NOT just lock you out or evict you without going to court - once you get the papers, go IMMEDIATELY to court to say why you haven't paid - the bees, the utility bills, etc. ONLY the court can handle this. If he locks you out or forcibly evicts you, call the police. There is a legal and an illegal way to evict someone and the law is on your side. |

You as a renter have rights! Do a search for renters rights in your area. You can be evicted but only after certain criteria have been met and maybe never if the landlord does not take care of problems. Check your rights!

Wow...move out.....more importantly, landlords are required to have separate utility hookups for tenants.....
There is an inhabitability clause ......you aren't expected to live in a bug infested property.....
So....stop paying rent now.....send him a letter advising him that he has violated SOO many rules....and you will move out...
Send a copy to the appropriate housing authority.....atty general, whatever....
This is not worth fighting over....we all have limits....bees and wasps??!! I'd be gone.. |

No matter how many problems there are, YES you can be evicted for not paying rent |

Yes, of course you can be evicted for non payment of rent. You can take code violations to your inspection department, and you may be able to force termination of your lease if the dwelling is not safely habitable. Bees would qualify as not habitable in any jurisdiction.
You may not be able to compel a landlord to fix the problem if they can get a demolition permit and serve you an eviction notice pursuant to that demolition permit. |

I'm pretty sure you can be evicted for not paying your rent. But then again, if they're not sending you the bill for the rent, they might not be able to kick you out because you're not paying it. After all, you don't even know how much to pay. Plus they're not cleaning up that bee and wasp business. Last time I checked, if someone is allergic to them, that person could die if stung by one.
It sounds like you need a new place to live. The landlord is up to something he shouldn't be up to. |

I would notify the board of health if I were you. If the landlord does nothing about the bees in the walls, then I bet there are more health violations there too. You can even sue him. Yes I do believe you can be evicted for not payment of rent. However, document everything. Save any and all receipts concerning anything you had to repair yourself. Take pictures! Are you a tenant at will or do you have a lease? If you have a lease , the landlord might in be violation of the lease. If you are a tenant at will, he may give you only a few weeks notice to vacate the premesis. And lastly, start looking for another place to live NOW! |

You will be evicted for not paying your rent.. but you can go to the court house,,, and there is some kind of thing you can put your rent into and your landlord in able to be able to get his money has to fix what needs to be repaired... I would think you could call the health department on the bee problem,, that just does not seem fair to me.. I would be scared to live there.. it is to dangerous.. I would give your landlord in writing of these problems . adn keep a copy for yourself.. let him know if someone gets badly stung from the bees,,, he is responsible for all medical bills.. do not wait.. someone could get hurt badly... |

I am not a legal proffessional however it would seem that if you do not pay rent you can be evicted. If I were in your situation I would contact a local attorney that will listen to your issue for free, advise you of a plan to solve your problem and then go from there. |

Put your rent payment into an escrow account until your issues with the landlord are answered . I believe you are entitled to see a copy of the utilities bill, especially if you're sharing it with your neighbors. As far as bees & wasps are concerned; contact your local housing authority , and notify them of your concerns and or violations... |

Yes they can evict you for not paying rent, but if I were you I would take this to court. That simply in itself might scare them enough to do something about things going on.
Oh how I have gone through the same thing. Just keep on nagging and tell them if they don't act on it, their responsibility, you will have someone come out and check your water and you will have someone remove the bees because it is a health hazard.
Re-read your rental agreement, if it doesn't state anything about getting copies of your bills, then you're entitled to everything they are charging you for. You can ask for a monthly break down- so much was going on with me and my landlord, she started losing clients. If nothing is still getting done you can report her to the Business Buerau or call a lawyers office and see what your rights are.
You can also have a police officer come over and file an official complaint with them about how you feel your safety is being compromised by your landlords lack of action.
You have to be your own advocate and will have to give that tough love to get what you're entitled to! |
