The law states that a Real Estate Agent must show you properties in any city you choose. If they don't they are in violation of discrimination laws and can loose their real estate sales license. They have access to the MLS which has properties all over the country. If it's for sale it's in the MLS data base. Any agent you choose, wheather they are in your town or another, should be more then capable to assist you with confidense.
I would choose an agent with at least 5 years under their belt. Good Luck! |

Ok..TONS of people have posted answers that clearly didn't read the question.
You are asking if you can choose a Realtor that can PERSONALLY show you property from a different area.
The Realtor only joins the MLS in your immediate area. They are also licensed in the state.
You Realtor cannot show nor negotiate any property sale for you outside of your home state b/c the Realtor is not licensed outside of your state (unless he/she lives in a border city, then it is common to see an agent licensed in both states).
When you say "show", you mean with an MLS key? The answer is no...not outside your area...b/c the Realtor's "key" will not work outside of the immediate MLS service area.
Any Realtor can give you a REFERRAL to another real estate agent who is licensed in another state that you want to look in. |

No, you cannot, unless that agent is licensed as a real estate agent in the area you select. If the property you wish to view is in the same state as is your hometown, of course you would not have any issue there, since licenses are statewide. If out of state, the situation is entirely different. There are a few states which grant reciprocity in licensure to agents from different states, but such reciprocal license must be applied for and paid for to be valid.
A few years ago, my own daughter requested assistance in purchasing her condo in Chicago. Since I live in Wisconsin, I was only able to act in an advisory capacity, and we used a local agent with whom I had made a referral agreement. |

I agree with Expert REALTOR. In order to easily show you property for sale in an area outside the agent's Board of REALTOR, arrangements must be made with a local REALTOR to get access. Not impossible, but another hurdle.
Your agent could help you with the actual transaction, or more likely would refer you to an agent where the property is and then act as an adviser.

You can, but you might get burned. Guidelines for buying property can vary a lot from state to state and even city to city. Your hometown friend may not know the latest information. I would work with someone local as well as with the person you know locally. |
