Can I get an apartment with bad credit and no job if someone cosigns?
I want to lease an apartment, but I don't have good credit or a job. I plan on using my savings to pay for rent. My mom would be cosigning. She has excellent credit, but does not work. If your credit rating is good enough, does it make up for no proof of employment? What if I agree to pay several months rent in advance?

This would be up to your potential future landlord to decide.

I know my landlord would not take a lessor without good credit and a co-signer without a job unless either a) a significant portion, if not all, of the rent was pre-paid or b) you could show him a bank statement with a fat, fat, fat balance in it.

But some landlords will take just about anybody.

I highly doubt they would rent an apartment to someone without a job. They want to make sure that can pay your bills. Most places ask for proof of employment before renting a place. Its a standard thing on an application. You can look around and see if you can find a place but im thinking you might be out of luck til you get a job.

Living on your own can be expensive, you have food, electic, cable, internet, water, cell, furniture. Do you have enough money to cover all of those and pay the rent til you can get a job? are you looking for a job?

you are going to have a hard time convincing a landlord that even though you do not have a job you will be able to pay the rent irregardless if your mother has excellent credit if she has no assets to attach to if you default they will not care about the credit score

It does depend on the landlord. If you are usig savings and paying for it all up front it might not make as much of a differnece. I have a girlfriend in perpetual college and she pays at the beginning of the year with her student loans and she has horrible credit. It really depends. Great credit can make up for it but it still falls on the individual landlord. Again, money up front can solve some of those probs possibly.

You can go with a privately owned they generally do not do credit checks... it would probably be best to try nice low income housing..... yes it does exist. or get a part time job, anyways.... you want to work, savings can only take you for so long. go to credit counseling . that would help allot, If you want to boost your credit rating you can start by establishing a good credit history by paying off some of you debts, even sending a partial payment will get the mark removed from your credit. all you have do to is make an attempt. Also go to your bank and put money on a prepaid credit card, then ONLY USE 33% of the balance, then for the first 3 months make the minimum balance payment, on the 4th month pay off what you owe, this will show creditors that you can handle a revolving debt... and boost your credit scoreat the same time. no this does not mean spend 33% then pay one payment and use the card again. just use 33% total then pay it up for 4 months then leave the card alone for a month or 2.

you should talk to the landlord. i had a similar situation recently, where i did not have a job, and had no credit (first place), the leasing company let me use my bank account in place of credit. i just brought in my bank statement, their requirement was at least 3 months rent in the account. worked for me with no cosigner

depends on the land lord

hmm as long as ur moms credits good and she co signs it ok ..

Dont pay several months in advance . Just pay watt u gotta pay be on time u shudnt have a problem

Trouble
If you have no job and bad credit, you will not get through the basic screening or meet the minimum criteria of experienced landlords.

A co-signor guarantees payment, so if mom doesn't work, that will not happen either.

In many states, advance rental payments are limited by law.

Generally, it is a big red flag when a tenant offers to pay rent for several months in advance.
