I moved out of the apartment a couple days ago. I finished cleaning the apartment and taking the last of my belongings. I've tried handing over the keys and the apartment in person several times and he hasn't come to the door. I've called repeatedly telling him to call me back and he hasn't. Can I send the keys, and a letter formally relinquishing the apartment through certified mail? |

Yes, just make sure that you mail it in a box. If someone finds out what it is and they aren't a "good person" they maybe living in your home. |

But since he's being evasive, I'd definitely do it Certified Mail, or FedEX or something trackable.
Document condition of apartment with photos, with manager, some one, should do a walk-through if possible.
Send letter stating the efforts you made to clean the place, to remove all your belongings, and multiple efforts to hand over keys. Politely Request prompt return of your security deposit and provide your new address. |
