Can a landlord ask for your bank account and savings account numbers on a rental application??

AMM-CA
I would not give it to them. I recently rented a house and put my bank account numbers on the lease and i just found out that my landlord knows someone at my bank and has been checking my account without my knowlede and permission. I wouldnt give him the information. If you do change banks right after.

seanachie60
he can ask.

dont give the info though

bradys_mommy

Yes they can. They don't usually do anything with it. They at least know that you have accts which means, for the most part, that you can pay your rent.

Curtis
The landlord can ask but you do not have to give them to him.

Yes, it is customary. The landlord will need your social security number to run a credit check, too.

clrwhm
Yes they can ask but no you don't ahve to give themt eh accoutn number all I would put is the name of the bank that you bank with and if they ask again tell them your account number is personal and confidential information.

Yes, they can.. Doesn't mean you have to provide.

I ask for a credit application as essentially a rental agreement is a LINE of credit.

If a prospective renter cannot provide information as to credit worthiness I can deny the rental application.

They can ask, but i wouldn't give the information unless you plan on having the rent come straight out of your account. I'd much rather write a check though.
