If you are facing trouble securing a viewing through a lettings agent, you could contact the Citizens Advice Bureau to point you towards housing services. Even though they have long waitinglists for council housing, some councils have lists of landlords and agencies who don't turn dss away and clearly state what their fees are.
Also off licenses often have classifieds posted in their windows that clearly state whether or not you will be turned away.
Added benefit: they won't charge the hefty fees letting agents charge. |

Yes. The landlord can choose not to let to people on housing benefit and instruct the agent accordingly.
You're not allowed to discriminate on the grounds of race, nationality, religion, sex, sexual orientation or disability - but poverty is fair game. |

lettings agents are only doing what the owner of the property want, most owners don`t want anyone in there peroperty who are on any kind of benefits because most benefits aren`t guarenteed every month for payments. |

They can refuse you for any reason they want, they arent obliged to show their properties or let them to anyone. |

I vaguely remember that in descrimination laws there is a ground called 'soci-economic background'. It might be descrimination for this reason.
However, if the agent and landlord are smart, they will just refuse rental for some people for any reason, but be careful not to give a reason - especially in writing |
