It may depending on what hardware you operate. A simple computer uses very little power. Things such as hard drives, the power light and computer fans use very little power.
If however you have high powered peripherals added then these can really chew the power. High powered graphics cards use a lot for cooling and other power guzzlers could be the monitor and speaker systems attached.
If your speakers have a sub-woofer then chances are they use a lot of power.
A good clue about your computer could be the size of the power supply. They can be as small as 250-300W to power all of the hardware inside your tower and go up to 1,200W or more for high powered machines with multiple graphics cards.
If you want to reduce consumption, turn the computer off whenever not in use, turn on the energy saving and screen saving modes by right clicking and choosing properties anywhere on your desktop; and disconnect or switch off the speakers when you don't need to be using them. You can easily save 500W or more when you do this, which is like having over 8x 60W light bulbs turned on or around 50 equivalent compact fluorescent lights! |

LCD monitors actually use more energy than the CRT monitors, so you might want to consider that. The answer is no, but the monitors do, yes, so use sleep mode. |

if you only have it on when your useing it ull be fine, try to turn it off when your down, and if its a laptop, like a mac, unplug it when its off unless your charging it. Same with lights, keep them off when possible |
