osborn9925 | Can i afford to live in a £350 a month rent on a £600 wage? |
The flat has 1 bedroom, 1 bathroom, 1 kitchen Additional Details Wow! thanks for the help. The flat is a ground floor studio apartment. Other people will live above me, so council tax will be reduced. I'm gonna see if I can get a small council flat 1st as my parents have asked me to leave. |

I would be really really hesitant to do that.
Usually the ideal ratio is that your housing should cost about 30% of what you actually bring home. Granted, that is not always feasible, but you're looking at more than 50% of your entire income, which is going to leave you with some serious financial hardships... |

That would be really hard. Your rent should be about what you earn in a week.
Make a list of all bills you have per month, estimate grocery, gas and and some extra for expenses that may come up, and see if you can swing it.
Maybe find a part time job to help with expenses, Luck, E |

It would be painfully difficult, if not impossible, with all the other bills you'd have to pay. You certainly wouldn't have any money for savings or discretionary spending. Most people I know recommend you spend about 25% of your income on housing. |

very difficulty, what about other bills, food etc. |
|

You would have to take bills, etc into account as well, which would be quite expensive on your own. In fact if you included everything like council tax, water, heat, gas, phone and tv license, I doubt there would be anything left at all.
You should look for a house share to reduce costs, or better yet, look for a job that pays more. |

Just consider everything else you spend in a month. Remember to include all the bills, food, clothes in addition to the rent you will be paying, then see if what you have left over is enough. |

You will find it very difficult!
I had to live off £500 a month paying £200 rent and it was a nightmare! |

With bills, council tax, travel costs and food shopping on top of that... no, to be blunt. |
|

You need to work out how much your bills will be on top of that - I suspect it would be very very tight. |

It would be very tight. Does that include your Council Tax? Electric, Gas? You also have to pay for a tv licence, food, clothes etc.
Don't do it unless you are certain you can afford it! |
|

.

I manage it with less of a wage now and when I wasn't a student, your disposable income will literally be zero though. Go see the council who will give you a council tax deduction plus housing benefit. |
|

your housing should be no more than 1/3 of your monthly income. |

Me

Our rent is £350 and we managed this on a £950 wage. But we also ran a car.
For our house, (1 bed, bathroom, kitchen and living room);
You need to consider council tax but in a flat you might not have to pay this, (ours £70 a month)
Water (£16 a month)
Elec (£30 a month)
Gas (£30 month)
Food (£20 a month) |

Do you wanna eat !? |
|

Catwhiskers
|
probably not, considering that you will have to pay council tax, electricity/gas, TV licence, home insurance, food etc. I doubt £250 a month would cover those things.
However, if you are over 25 you would probably be entitled to working tax credits which would boost your income a bit. Also, if your parents have asked you to leave, the council may be able to house you and you may be entitled to reduced rent or council tax from them. Contact your local citizens advice bureau for advice. |
