Can i break my lease if I lose my job in california and have to move far away to go to a new job?
I was fired from my job and have to move 300 miles away for a new job can I get out of my lease ?

Landlord
No, your job and your lease are not legally tied together in any way.

Willow Natalia
Most leases are breakable, but you will pay heavily for doing so. At the property management company I worked for we made tenants who broke their lease:
1. Pay rent until the lease expired or a new tenant was found, whichever happened first.
2. If the unit was re-rented at a lower cost before the original lease expired, the breaking tenant had to pay the difference each month so that the owner of the unit wasn't out any money.
3. Pay advertising costs
4. Pay a break-lease fee of 10% of the rent
5. They still had to do a full cleaning of the unit, including carpets, and make any repairs required.

No, you cannot. Such situations are generally only provided to active military duty members who are reassigned. Your lease remains binding, and you will need to negotiate some sort of settlement of the lease with your landlord.

KayMo
Well, technically you could break your lease... but, depending on your landlord's requirements, you could have to pay a fine or anything as simple as not getting your security deposit back. Just talk to your landlord. Perhaps they will even understand and give you a break. I do give the occasional break myself depending on the situation.

When we lived in NYC, we had a clause saying we could break the lease if a new job was more than 50 miles from the apartment. I've never seen that in any other lease I've had.

Talk to the landlord. Try to work something out with him.

You can talk to the rental agent about your problem and if he has a possible renter he may return all or part of the deposit.
Any body that moves out is breaking the agreement but most people will not pursue you, not worth the cost. You maybe able to sub-lease the place til the end of your lease if the agent agrees.

Ray
NO, too bad you didn't think to add that to your lease agreement ahead of time. Now you'll know for the next lease.
Just stop paying the rent. Make the landlord use your security deposit. It takes 90 days for court ordered evictions.

bud68
Not unless your lease has a clause so stating.
