If as your lawyer states the owners of the building have filled bankruptcy you will only be able to collect a portion of the money you may win. Also note that in many cases the insurance limits the amount you can receive from them. This amount is usually about 30000. You should also be aware that if you were behind in your rent or at any time made a late rent payment without first making written arrangements with the buildings owner you are not entitled to receive any compensation. One final note should you sue and lose your case you will be liable for not only your attorney fees but also the fees of the attorney for the buildings owner and the insurance company.

If the apt. owner has filed Bankruptcy you will very likely get ZILCH, NADA, NOTHING. How do you KNOW there is a big insurance policy unless you have seen it, you can't just assume and the possibility exist there is NO INSURANCE if this person is truly that negligent. The longer it takes to get the suit going the greater the possibilty there is going to be nothing to collect as the owner is probably, quickly making themselves judgment proof.

You can sue anyone, for anything, anytime but will you win?

Your Atty may be very smart in trying to get in and get you anything he/she can before there is NOTHING to get with this BK.

This is America...you can sue whom ever you want, but winning and collecting a totally different. You sound like your grasping at straws...so good luck.

I dont want to burst your bubble but I do want to know if this place is so bad, WHY are you still there.
There is a certain little concept in the law that states that a person has an obligation to minimize the damages....
you will have a hard time convicing someone how bad this place is if you still live there.
If you paid 20k out in doctor bills then you must not have been that hurt if you were still going to work to pay them
I dont get it
but please understand that you can sue anyone
you can sue a ham sandwich
can you win?
Doubt it

Just get a new lawyer. You should at least sue for the amount of our doctor bills... and a little more for pain and suffering.

You can sue the landlord for any amount that you want to sue for.
However could you indeed collect? I would have my attny put an instant lien on the property. For the 1.5 million i would have him sue for.
Remember you can always come down but never go up once you file the law suit.
Get a trial attny. Not a settler.
And please slow down and do spell check. It is on the computer.
