Every state has laws that landlords are to abide by. Most major cities have consumer complaint phone numbers where you can get help with landlord issues. |

Isn't there a sink in the kitchen they could use? |

Definitely not. You pay for your privacy and your belongings would be at risk. |

Not if it isn't already in your contract.. that's an invasion of privacy, and, when stuff starts to disappear, you'll have a heck of a lawsuit on him. |

No, i don't think so. Because i believe that you are paying for your own room which has a privacy that you need. |

By law you are paying rent for the room and the landlord or any of the roommates are not allowed in there without your permission, usually notice is required preferably in writing. |

Your room should have a lock on the door and no one has the right to come and go without an invitation including the landlord. |

every financial transaction needs an agreement, so it depends on your agreement, which you sign. If you did not sign any, it would be tougher. If signed, look at it, and read it. You're legally protected if you signed a legal agreement, unless otherwise good luck. |

He is changing the terms of the lease. You have the right to look for another place to live. |

No he has no rights to do this.
Did you sign any agreement? |

You rented this room, and it should be totally for you. You are in a house of multiple occupation, that should be registered with the council. There are regulations for these places, and not to have a basin in the bathroom, is a health and safety matter, contact them.
As for leaving your room open, this is a no-no and he is not allowed to do this. I suggest you look for alternative accommodation. |

If you are paying rent then absolutely not! Report him if he persists. |

Whether he is allowed to do this or not depends on whether it was clearly communicated to you at the time you rented the room. It doesn't have to be in a contract - just verbal communication is fine.
So it's a bit difficult to answer because it sounds like there has never been a sink in the bathroom, so you should have been prepared for this. Yet you make it sound like it wasn't something you were aware would be happening?
Of course it's unacceptable that others should be coming and going out of your room as they wish, but it's also unacceptable that they don't have a sink. To the person who suggested that they could use the one in the kitchen - that is DISGUSTING - you want people to be brushing their teeth and then spitting into the kitchen sink, or blokes to be shaving in it, in an area where food is prepared?
So, it sounds like unless the layout of the house is changed then a suitable arrangement won't be found, and I wonder if actually there is a law against this. When houses are let out to a bunch of individual tenants (as would be the case if you have roommates - as opposed to it being let out to just one family) there are different regulations that have to be complied with and I wouldn't be surprised if this is breaching those. You should contact your local authority as a starting point to find out if this is the case. Or, just move out. |

The sink is his problem. You agreed to rent the apartment and have your privacy. I wouldn't want other people to have free reign in my apartment and I wouldn't want strangers using my bathroom. Tell him no. And then be prepared to move because he will want you out. And you want to get out. That is the most inconsiderate thing I have ever heard. I'll bet he wouldn't leave his house open to let strangers use his bathrrom. . .What a jerk. . . . |

What does your lease state? If you do not have a lease in place, he can do this because it is his house. You can always go to www.craigslist.com and find another place to live in your area for rent. People need renters to rent or share a room, or apartments on this sight. Good luck. |

No, he has no right. You are paying rent for that space and these people are trespassing and your landlord is harassing you. |

if this is a single room that you rent i doubt it
but if you are sharing a house that would be something between you and you roomies
if you are all living in the same place land lord included i would ask for a different room |
