Can my boyfriend of 2 years kick me out of his house with no notice?
He owns the house and pays utilities. I buy food and some supplies for the house.
First i came home one night and he locked me out. I had to find a place to stay for the night. We spent 2 weeks trying to work things out. Then out of the blue he told me that i needed to be out of his place by the following morning. He came home with trash bags, put all my things in them and threw them in my car. I asked for more time to find a new place to stay, but he refuses. Can he legally kick me out with almost no notice? We're in California.

Sounds like to me you are a legal tenant and your ex may be in some trouble. You may be able to sue him for damages.

I had a tenant once I asked to baby sit a house for me for about 6 months. I didn't ask him to pay rent and there was no rental agreement. After the 6 months he had no were to go and refused to leave. I went into the house and had his stuff boxed up and I was going to put it out into the street but it was raining so I decided to put it in the garage instead. When he came home, he called the cops claiming I stole his property. The police officer asked me where his stuff was and I said it was in the garage. He informed me then, had I put his belongings on the street, I could have been in some serious trouble. So I learned the hard way. Thankfully, the tenant left the next day.

Speak to an attorney. You might have grounds for a lawsuit as long as you can show you lived there.

legally I don't know. but he did kick you out and it would be better spending your time finding a place to live then being on the internet. go apartment hunting right now. if necessary stay with friends until you can get a place to stay. Your bf sounds like a real jerk thank your lucky stars you found out for you had kids or married him

Under California Tenant Land Lord Laws, you are a tenant, and entitled to all the protections afforded any other tenant.

If your rental rights are violated, you will have to sue him in court to enforce them or seek compensation allowed under California Tenant Land Lord Laws.

In the interim, you will still need to find someplace to live.

No he can't. You have established residency and therefore the local laws regarding eviction will apply. He must follow these laws which probably include a 30 day notice of eviction.

However, do you really want to go back to living with him? I would look for a friend or family member who will let you sleep on a couch for a few days while you find your own place.

In most states you would be considered a tenant if you established residency there. Legally he would need to go to court to formally evict you.

However, I know I wouldnt want to stay in a place where I was no longer wanted. If my things were thrown out and I was locked out, I wouldnt want to test the guy to see how much further he could be angered, it could end up badly.

No...you are a legal tenant. He needs to follow proper landlord/tenant laws in Calif. in order to evict you.

You should of called the police. You can sue him in small claims court for illegal eviction.

Yes, unless you have a written lease.

You've had free rent all this time, you should be able to afford a motel for a few nights until you find a new apartment. Or stay with friends. Put your things in a storage unit. Why continue to look to him for care? Stand on your own two feet and move on, and this time don't depend on someone else -- depend on yourself! Time to grow up.

Actually, I think he might have to give you 30 days notice. But I think it would be safer to be away from him.

Unless you have a signed Rental Agreement, you have no legal rights. Sorry. You are not even a renter or a boarder.

yes he can; why? Cause you are a guest; not a tenant or joint owner.
Had you been paying rent to him or been called a legal partner
that would be different.

YOU went from being a desired guest to a non-desired guest.

NO offense to you but turn the tables around;
if it was your house, what rights would you want HIM to have?

I am sorry about your extreme inconvenience.
