Terence T | Can my girlfriend take me off the lease we signed a year lease? |

Your chances are virtually zero of accomplishing this. Here's why.
To a landlord you're like a co-signer, another person to guarantee payment if your girlfriend doesn't pay the rent or damages the place. From the landlord's perpspective, the more people to go after in case of trouble, the better. To take you off the lease the landlord would lose this advantage and gain nothing in return. In other words, the landlord has absolutely zero incentive to take you off the lease and a rather large incentive to keep you on the lease and you can't do it without the landlord's cooperation. |

Not unless all the parties involved agree, which then I think another paper should be signed by everybody stating it's void! |

everybody would have to agree to this. your girlfriend doing anything would do nothing without you and the landlord's consent. also depends upon how much time is left on the lease. talk to the landlord. |

I don't think so. If you are on the lease there really isn't a way to take you off if you don't want to be on it. If you want to be off the lease, and she wants you off, you can go to the landlord and work something out I am sure. |

Depends on the laws of your state. My state laws make exceptions for several reasons, the most common used is an allegation of abuse.
If abuse is alleged, the land lord is required by law to modify the lease and evict you, or if she wants to move, modify the lease making you responsible for the entire lease. |

No. She cannot. But you are still responsible for the rent unless the landlord agrees to take you off. |

If lease is still in effect--NO, not without agreement of you and landlord. If lease terminated and she's renewing, getting a new lease, YES. |

It is a contract between you and the landlord. It is between the two of you. |

No. Only the landlord can "take you off the lease." |

Not at all. Not until the lease runs out. The two of you have a equal amount of responsibility, power and liability in the situation. As long as both of your signatures are on the document, she cannot remove your name without going to court. |

No you cannot get taken off of a lease simply by a request. I think it does very by state or county laws. I know that you usually have to have a court order to amend a lease. I don't think that even a landlord can take you off a lease. I would look into it through your local county tenants rights agency. |
