I rent a room in a woman's suburban house in Missouri on a monthly basis, and the other day she asked me to not have sex in her house anymore. I asked if she just wanted me to keep it down, and she said she doesn't want it going on PERIOD.
This stipulation was nowhere in the lease I signed. In fact, when we made this arrangement over the phone (it was a Craigslist thing) I even asked if overnight guests were ok, and she said yes.She called it a "respect issue" and that it "offends people."
I think this is completely ridiculous and while I'm fine trying to keep it down, I'm not going to stop having sex. It's my living area, I pay for it, I get to do what I want. But if she decided to kick me out, do I have any legal recourse?

Renting a room in a private home is much different from renting an apartment from a landlord. You don't actually "get to do what you want" without restrictions. If you smoke dope expect the police to come and take you away.
It's obvious she thought she could deal with it and maybe expected a fulltime girlfriend to sleep over once in a while. But if you are picking up random girls maybe she can't handle it.
I suggest a respectful agreement to move out at your earliest convenience. Do you really want this grief? |

I agree this is ridiculous, I guess she expect you too pay her rent, then pay additional money for gas and a hotel to have sex. I think you should explain your side to her, maybe she will understand. However to answer you question, in most states a month-to-month tenancy can be terminated by the landlord at the end of the month, meaning if you pay for the month of August, once August come to an end she doesn't have to renew your lease for September, and she doesn't have to give a reason. |

This is the exact reason why people don't live with other people. Respect. It's a private resident and she owns it, so she can call the shots in her own home. It's called house rules. She can say no screwing, no noise, no smoking, no pets, no parking, etc. etc. etc.
You rent a bedroom to sleep in. You can have sex your your friends house and not in your rented room, can't you?
You have no legal recourse for a verbal agreement without a written contract with your landlord. |

If you are renting on a monthly basis, she can terminate your month to month agreement without cause or reason with proper written notice - usually 30 days, but it varies by state.
Once your tenancy has been properly terminated, if you fail to move out per the notice, she can begin the eviction process. You would not be evicted for having sex, you would actually be evicted for holding over without permission or termination of tenancy - whatever your local courts accept. |

If it's nowhere in the contract she cannot evict you. However if the both of you signed an agreement that stated "No Sex", from what I'm reading is no, then she can't kick you out. But, I would talk to a lawyer just to be safe. |

that is the silliest thing ive ever heard!! i would contact an attorney and take a copy of your lease agreement to them and see if they can give you advice on whether or not she can do this...but here in ohio a judge would laugh at her...especially if it were not in the lease.at least get a free consultation from the attorney and see where you stand. if she tries to kick you out...hire him.
btw each state has different rights and laws...thats why i cannot fully answer your question |

Having sex is not illegal. Even if she said no sex in the contract it is probably not enforceable. There is no rental contract that can override the law or deny you your rights.
If she doesn't stop bugging you remind here harassment is illegal. |

since this is not an apartment or trailer or house to your self you do have some rights IF you have lived there long enough. if you have not she can get rid of you for what ever. You need to check your local laws to see at what time you have become a official resident of the property. if you have become one then she can not. And yes it is rather rediculous |
