elrobo1 | Can one buy a council house while on income support ,cash, given by friend? |

BackMan
No, the cash would be seen as an income so you would lose your benefits. |

Oracle
You could but (a) the gift is taxable. (b) you would have to declare it and income support will almost certainly change downwards. (c) if you fail to report it you will end up in court.
Best course of action discuss it with the DSS. |

yes you could - if you were living in it yourself. obviously if you owned a property you weren't living in then you couldn't get benefit. "cash given by friend" sounds VERY suspicious though, they would be sure to ask loads of questions about that! |

IF you can get the DHSS to confirm that you will be on income support for a considerable time, You can get a interest only mortgage from most building societies. |

You can buy your council house whilst on benefits but for proper advice e-mail me and will happily help you. |

You can buy it, BUT you would not be able to claim housing benefit. and why on earth would your "friend" buy you a house ? the social would need to be informed of this as they will find out when your Housing benefit stops. They would then check your savings etc and the Tax man could get involved. your best bet is speak to them and see what they say. |
