Yes you can have a lodger whilst claiming housing benefit. What the lodger pays you will be deducted from your benefit
Or...the lodger could be calculated as a non dependent and a fixed weekly amount wil be deducted from your benefit dependent on the lodgers own income
If the lodger is also claiming housing benefit then there are certain strict rules in place to ensure that a legal tenancy agreement exists....contact Shelter |

No definitely not because your circumstances would have changed. If your circumstances change in any way you are supposed to notify the council in writing. This however will change your income you receive, so by not notifying the council would in effect be breaking the law. |

Yeah! it's legal but you have to declare the rent.. |

Depends on the state you live in. Most states you can, but you need to declare it as income, therefore either reducing or eliminating the assistance you get (this would also affect any other assistance you get from the government - medical, etc.). |

In Illinois this recently happened to a friend of mine - her mom received housing benefits and she lived with her mom. The mom didn't even receive money from her, she just lived there. Well, there was a fire in the house and the Section 8 people found out the daughter was living there and now the mom has basically had her benefits withdrawn and now cannot get Section 8 housing again.
They're pretty strict on abuse of this benefit, and for good reason. Be very careful if you do plan to break the law, as you never know what might happen that can screw you over in the long run. |

In most states, the answer is no. You will have to check with your local housing authority to make sure. Taking on a lodger could mean a loss of benefits, or the housing authority may be able to sue you for repayment of the benefits you received - read the conditions of the agreement that you signed with the housing authority.
In most states, you may not even have a person stay with you for more than x number of days in a row or per month regardless of whether or not they are paying anything. Again, you can not only lose your benefits, but you could also be required to pay back all or part of the received benefits. |

Not if you keep advertising it on yahoo. |
|

If you say so...
 |
Well I would imagine your benefit would be cut if you had a lodger that was contributing to the rent. I would suggest not telling anybody. |
