Whatcha Doin??? | Can someone please help with an answer! My kids and me are desperate!? |
I have been living in this section 8 mod rehab apartment for 10 yrs now, I am a single mom with 3 girls, I work 8 hrs a day and pay rent and bills on time all the time! Now since I moved here, this place has gotten very bad with its upkeeping, I am in desperate need of a section 8 certificate, If I move from here I lose my section 8, but they wont move me to a three bedroom where me and my 3 teenage girls can live without stepping on eachothers toes! We are cramped, I requested a transfer to a 3 bedroom a year ago and Im still waiting!I need a new rug desperately this one is full of little bugs that cause my two younger teens to break out! Waterbugs invade us day in and day out, We don't have company come over the rug is too embarrasing for us! My girls are frustrated & hate living like this and noone does anything about it! I have called management, faxed, and written letters and NOTHING!!! I do know that they go pick up their damn rent money at the designated place with ease! :( |

Have you reported it to your caseworker - where you got your Section 8 Housing???? This is a health issue for all of you. Can you make it with out the Section 8 help? You have alot of good answers on here, you may want to try most of them out.
Have you also thought of buying thru the USDA Rural Direct Program, where your home paymenst are based on income, and your payment could/may be lowered... It is called the Rural Housing Direct Homeownership Loan Program. By the United States Department of Agriculture.
http://www.rurdev.usda.gov
http://eligibility.sc.egov.usda.gov/eligibility/welcomeAction.do
Or see if you qualify for a 100 percent mortgage with out going thru the USDA Program - Just a idea.
Good luck to you. |

You will have to have an inspection ordered on the unit, and then Section 8 will hold back the money from your landlord until the repairs are made. |

Report them to HUD and then report them to the better business bureau for housing acts. You don't have to put up with that. |

I would say that maybe you should call the state or some kind of department that will maybe make them take action! |

Can you report the landlord to the Dept. of Health? Is there a tenant advocacy group? There should be a local housing authority that can make the landlord replace the rug and fumigate the apt. Good Luck, wish I could help more. |

You should probably move to another apartment complex. There are apartments that will work off your income. I think it is called low house income. All you have to do is find the apartment that you like, call and see. There are other programs offered by the state as well. |

I am in no way an expert on section 8 however, I do know some people who are on it and I think I've heard them say that if you've been on section 8 for a couple of years, then you move to another county, then you get priority in the new county.
So, if you can find out when the HUD office in the county that you would like to move too gets more certificates or money or however it is determined that they are going to give out more then move there during that time you get a certificate.
These things might be worth investigating.
1.) Do you get priority if you move to another county?
2.) When will that county get more certificates?
If moving to another county doesn't sound like something you'd want to do then going the route of reporting the complex to the city might just work for you. When the city gets involved, property owners move very quickly and even a county or city sponsored organization can be sued.
If you think the city is not helping because it is protecting itself then maybe call the paper and see if there is someway that you can get them to come out and do an expose.
There are also news stations that have those "watch dog" shows that might come out if it really is as bad as you say. |

Call your local HUD office or visit this site for one near you. http://www.hud.gov/offices/lead/hhi/index.cfm I would make sure that those water bugs are water bugs and not cockroaches. It sounds like it could be due to the children's rashes. In any case I would make a complaint to housing at this site I gave to you as there is no reason that you should have to live that way. Also you should take the children into the doctors and see what he has to say. Tell him what is going on as he may have ideas of what more you can be doing. Another thing you can do is call city hall and ask them as they usually have a place to report landlords. Good luck with this and please let me know how you make out with this. |

I would think after 10 years you would have found a way to get off government help!! If you have teanage girls, then they can go to work and help pay rent on a nice place to live. If you arn't willing to help yourself, then don't complain about your living conditions. I went to work cleaning houses with a friend for 14 years to get myself and 3 children off welfare! No reason you can't do the same. |

Call the department of health,
social services,
better business beaureu,
if that does not work
call the police department (not 911, they should have a number)
and ask them who can help you.
also someone at your city hall should at least tell you who to call.
hope things get better. |

Sorry but I guess no one told you that life in government housing is no four seasons resort.
Forget that dead end section 8 life, Get yourself away from dealing with government bureaus and get a life that you control.
I can tell you are a person that is not afraid to take on a challenge, but you wasting your time.
Refocus that fiery spirit on a life that doesn't include a section 8 and I am sure you will do much better. |

Ask your local newspaper to run a story on it.Single working mom of 3,trying to make a life for her kids etc, etc. They'd be quick to run your story if you mugged someone. You can only try.Maybe it'll shame the management into doing something.Or maybe someone will offer you a better place to rent.Good luck |

call the health department on them.
Try picking a part time job and move out. It's not even worth staying there. |
