I am a leasing agent, and yes, your landlord can. He should have contacted you about the place being up for sale, and what is expected of you.

Michelle C
yes as long as you have notice

Yes, but the land lord should show you the courtesy of saying when they will come.

Given 24 hours notice, yes.

Yes it is legal.

If you were aware that the property was up for sale while you were residing in the premises, than yes it is legal. Although the realtor has to give you at least 24 hours notice in most cases. They can't just walk in.

Yes with Reasonable notice, now that will deffer a little in each state, but in general the landlord or the landlord's agent IE the real estate agent must give 24 hour notice before they can enter the unit to show

Now also certain cities in the US will place additional restrictions on the frequency of showings in any one week. like Monday threw Friday normal business hours etc

if you are on a fixed term lease the new owners must honor the lease unit it ends

Yes, with "adequate" - usually 24 hours - notice, and you have the right to refuse if it's just not convenient for you. I certainly would insist on being there, since these are strangers, and I would not allow viewings in the evenings or on weekends.

I've been in this situation before and landlords can get peevish, but that's because they want what they want. You have rights as long as you are paying the rent, and one of those rights is the quiet enjoyment of the property.

Yes, they have every right to show it and it's likely in your contract. You probably have an obligation to keep it somewhat presentable as well. They should have to give you some notice. But the more cooperative you both are the less of a hassle it'll be for both, so play nice.

It's their property. You're just borrowing it for a fee.
