Can you be 17 years old and buy a house for sale in California?
I'll be 18 in 6 months, I have inherited a lot of money, enough to buy a house, but I'm still not sure if a 17 year old can buy a house for sale in the state of california.

Legalize it!

well lucky you...:(...if you can pay all of the money upfront you probably wont have a problem

Register a corporation, and have the corporation buy it. There is no minimum age to own a corporation, and any corporation can buy any real property.

Talk to a corporate lawyer and he will help you.

You cannot legally enter into a contract until the age of majority which is 18 in California . . . I'd wait the 6 months and see what the market does . . . it ain't finished dipping . . .

im 19 move to Atascadero California and i will move in with you ha ha no really i will

No. You have to be of majority age (18) to enter into a legal contract. Buying a house is a contract. You'll have to wait.

You can become a home owner even if you are only 17 years old but you might have a problem in getting the mortgage loan. But if you can buy the house with cash (no loan), find a reputable realtor to handle the transactions. Hire an attorney (with good reputation since there are many crooked lawyers too) to represent you in negotiation and to oversee the entire transactions so that nobody takes advantage of a young inexperienced person.

Good luck!

I believe you can only with an adult co-signer otherwise you must be 18. Regardless how much money you have until your 18 your not liable for anything thus places need to have someone who can be liable for payments and such in case someone doesn't pay something.

Nope Nope, I think you gotta be 18. Well first of all you can't pull out a banded up wad of hundreds and drop it on a house. You need to finance. Which means you need a bank account and credit which you can't start building til you are 18.

But Cali does have it's own set of rules..

Uncle Mike
Research all the pros and cons, buying is good but there are other expenses that come with property ownership, Taxes, insurance, maintenance, to name a few. Do your research and then before you know it you will be old enough to make a informed decision. Its a big step. And you must prepare to be successful.
Remember "A fool and his money are soon parted"
Make good choices you only get to spend it once,
Good Luck, Uncle Mike

No not at 17 y.o cant enter into a binding contract! Research some investments for short term gains such as gold buy low ,sell hi be patient it will happen! When you buy a house insurance and taxes will also be needed plus repairs to the home when needed! At this time there are a lot of great house buys talk to a realtor for buying 1 that is much lower than its foreclosed price was like a $400,000 house going for $225,000 ! But you got cash it is a commodity that is something you don't want to waste be very careful with how you spend it!

Living for today.
to be the lease holder..no you cannot.
wait till your 18.

Spindrift
Your best bet is to talk to a RE agent which you will have to do in any case.

no you have to be 18 to sign the contract congrats on the money but you need to be an adult to legally sign a contract you can either wait the 6 months or ask someone you really really trust to sign with you that will sign their name off of the title when you turn 18.

if you have money, you can do anything.

You can buy it (as long as you don't plan to take out a mortgage), hold it in trust under a guardian, and then take full position at 18.

they are expensive out here so make sure you dont blow the entire inheritance on just a home

Melissa is Zacks awesome mom
i highly doubt a 17 year old has the money let alone enough credit to buy a house considering you have to be 18 to get a credit card on your own.

even if you did have the money you claim you do, be prepared to be harrassed about where the money came from and to show tons and tons of proof that it is not a loan.

my husband and i just bought our first home in feb. 2008 and went through so much crap to prove that our $50,000 down payment was not a loan, and that it came from money my husband had in stocks.
