its the fifth story down, i know he built it illegally but its so beautiful
it'd be such a waste to demolish it

Hes just another farmer who thinks he should be allowed to do whatever he wants.
Planning laws are there for a reason,to stop people just building whatever they want on any spare patch of land. How would you react if instead of a pretty castle,he built an 18 storey concrete block for immigrant workers?
Not as outraged then I would imagine

Should have got planning permission. It is his own fault.

The Ghost
lets let all the shoplifters and drug dealers loose while we are at it. Laws are there for a reason - break them and you face a punishment.

The farmer know he was braking the law otherwise why hide it?

i have no sympathy for this man he should of got planning permision first . it should be demolished and he should foot the bill.

well let's face it... he wouldn't be hiding it in the first place if he didn't think he was doing something wrong! However, ... if the land was legally his...he kinda has a right to do with it what he wants... BUT, imho he should be fined HEAVILY if the home passes inspection & he is given a retroactive permit or stay of some sort. He should no doubt have to pay fines, costs of inspections, and any repairs that would be needed for the home to be to CURRENT code.

Contrary to popular opinion, planning law is there to protect the majority from the inappropriate behaviour of the minority. Whether or not the house is lovely (and it is) there is a proper process to go through in order to obtain permission to build. This person appears to have a long track record of behaving in a manner that demonstrates a fine disregard for anyone's rights other than his own (see the newspaper article that follows from the link provided above. Green belt land is essential for food production and the protection of species and the sort of erosion of that space demonstrated by this persons's actions is not acceptable in a country that is already grossly overcrowded and running out of space in which to enjoy fresh air and sunshine. Would you be as upset about this case if he had built a bog-ugly bungalow - I doubt it.

I agree but why did he just not get planning permission and building regs like everyone else

They probably will build an "Ikea home" there. Has the World gone mad, or is it me?

Know the truth and pass it on!
It was a waste to build it illegally and then try to get away with it

he enjoyed the house for 4 years...accept it and move on

That's a house? Thought it was the local tip!

I remember seeing a program about it. Its his own fault and serves him right.

It was built illegally and it's an eyesore. It should be torn down.

that stinks its so nice, and its a castle!

CAROLYN "GOODBYE YA"
yeah its a shame, its a lovely house, but at the end of the day, he clearly knew he was breaking the law, and should face the punishment.

if he wanted a castle that much, he should have moved off of green belt land and built one where its legal to build.

he'd be the 1st one to complain if someone built a castle that blocked his field or view....

No wonder this world is so heavily regulated look at all the answers here. Bunch of folks living in planned commununties with Volvo's and manicured lawns. Its typical the tyranny never dies it shows up everywhere people insist on throwing there yoke on this farmer. These planning committees and other tyrannies are all the same and basically represent what all you want which is complete socialism. Ya tear it down you commie socialists. Scum I say leave him alone or better yet maybe its time to revolt to get our property rights back.
Maybe its time to burn the planned neighborhoods and Volvo's they are ugly in my eyes. you people i have a better idea lets throw you all in projects and then we can all be exactly the same.
While we are at it I'm sure we can find plenty of buildings that don't meet code that the government is currently occupying. these hypocrites.
This guy is owner occupied is hurting no one, He didnt get proper permits better blow up his home and fine him.
Man if this is the world we live in watch out cause you crazy socialist commies are going to wind up breeding a lot more terrorists unless you get rid of these tyrannies on our property rights.
This home looks pretty interesting to demo it? Wow, Maybe they should have laws against socialist commies.
Ok thanks I made my point and my rant now. I need to get back to making money so i can donate as much as I can to anyone that protect property rights against government regulation.

Don't ask, I'm confused
It's the power crazy jobsworth at it again. Jealousy is a wonderful thing, it brings out the very best in w@ankers
