Yeah, easy. When money is short, you can still have a fried breakfast in the mornings, a full roast chicken dinner every evening, and snacks throughout the day on less than a tenner.

Breakfast:
Bread: 25p
Dozen eggs: £1.12
Dozen sausages: 59p
Butter: 50p

Dinner:
Chicken portions (6-8 meals): £1.39
Bag of potatoes: £1.00
Mixed veg: 99p
Sage and onion stuffing: 26p
Gravy granules: 40p

Snacks:
Crisps: £1.00
Biscuits: 50p
Apples: 80p
Noodles (5 packs): 45p
Sliced ham (for sandwiches): 67p

All from Asda, totals £9.92, and gives you about nine days of food.

its easily doable, you could just buy the cheapest stuff at netto but u can even eat quality food! but u may have to do alot of walking to and from different cheap shop with the best stuff at the lowest prices. Just to give u an example from Bradford
go to haqs for milk (2litres at 59p)
go to netto for bread (2 loaves 52p)
go to foulton foods near the market for
6 eggs (45p)
pg tips 40 teabags (40p)

1 box of morrisons own lable cereal (pretty tasty 89p)
400g of Morrisons smoked kippers, this is basically two fish (59p!)

from the market buy a kilo of British onions (60p)
some veg for eveing meals eg cabbage and turnip (70p)

then go to home bargains to get some cooking oil (39p)
rice 500g (60p)
pasta 500g (40p)

net total so far is £6.13 and I recon you could survive on this all week

but you should get one carton of tesco value orange juice (39p) to supplement ur diet with vitamins

and 500g of minced mutton meat from worldwide asian cash and carry (£1) but to make this tasty you will need one can of peeled plum tomatoes (25p) and some curry powder (which you can buy loose! 10p).

This I think is enough to live on for one week and would cost a net total of £7.87.

you could use the remainder for cheap buiscuits average of 20p a pack/real porridge oats-superoats are 39p for 500g/and even a takeaway meal, you can get a one piece chicken/chips/drink meal from rajas in town opposite the market for ONE pound.

you know how i know.......coz i have done it!!!

Well yeah you can, but you will have to eat the same thing everyday and it mite be unhealthy. For breakfast you can eat the cheapest cereal, for lunch nothing, for dinner chips and a can of drink and for midnight nothing

If you go to a farmers market and buy lots of veggies you can make stews etc which are quite economical and would last 2 or 3 days. A huge bag of porridge from my local supermarket costs less than 50p and last me 3 weeks. If you go into supermarkets just before they close down they usually sell fresh baked stuff cheap to clear the shelves, so if you watch what you but with a little care, even though it's boring you can eke your tenner out for a week. I know cos I've done it!

I have read all the answers and it would be good if you could really do it, with a family like mine and kids with food allergies it's a nightmare. I'd love it to cost £10 pp per week!
But I suppose it could be done with all the basics from supermarkets and markets. Not very healthy though.

ignorant fool
yes but how healthy would what you eat be? a pack of 500 gr pasta -basics, value and othe cheap brands- is 15 p, then you can get the exceedingly cheap sauces -I think they start from 25p but i have never tried them.
A lot of people that tried to save money when I was in college lived on supernoodles (35p per pack and there are promotions). Then there is basics/value fish and meat and you can hang around the reduced part of the fridge for fruits and meat -half rotten I suppose. Then there are treats -such as biscuts and chocolate for as little as 30p though I have always assumed they taste awfully bad.
Some markets and street sales people are having very cheap prices as well. But there is no quality check as for organic no gm forget it.
As an experiment -type supersize me or superskinny me or whatever you can try it. Best of luck and keep us posted.

Yes, probably and i live in the uk! would just have to go to cheap shops. i dont drink or smoke, or go out in the evenings as i have a 2 year old. so yea i probably could live off £10 a week for food.

NICK
no problem. you just need to eat at mates houses or go round familys for dinner say on a sunday. or you could hang around the back of local shops and get stuff out of the bins... yum yum. lol

Here in Nigeria it is possible. It is just that you will not be able to visit ultra modern restaurants. However, you will eat to satisfaction with 10 pounds here.Infact, 10 pounds is over 2500 naira here. You can see what I mean now.

Babydoll (formerly koteczka)
Where? Not in the UK!
Unless you eat beans on toast all week for breakfast, lunch and dinner. More or less..
