You would need to contact the office, and ask them what they require for an application for them to accept you as an tenant. They may require a credit check, job history, current employment status. You may get a decent landlord to approve you based on your financial status. |

Depends, some lanlords will do a credit check some won't. Keep in mind it costs to run a credit check.

Depends on where you live. I'm from Toronto and usually they require:
1) A credit bureau check (making sure your credit history is a good one) - make sure you don't get too many of these, each time your credit history is checked it gets recorded and too many brings up a warning flag.
2) First and last month's rent.
3) Some sort of identification (e.g. driver's license).
They may ask for your bank statements and your employment information but I'm sure that if you explained the situation and everything else is in check then you should be fine. Good luck! |

Without a job, Even if you have the funds to pay the rent for that year. You would not pass most apartment qualifying agendas.
Try getting the job first. There are a ton of jobs on CraigsList in the area you are looking to move to.
Apply for them get that job as long as it will get you in the door. Once there you can quit that one and move on to the one you want.
(As far as the person that was harassed and had to put all that money down. If that was indeed in California you could sue them for that harassment and perhaps in the state you livein)

Most places in my area, do a credit check, they may want to contact your employer. If you paid 12 mths rent up front you would have NO problem getting apartment. I have a rental property and I have had students rent it and pay 6 mths up front.

if the landlord is ready to accept the 12 months lease, then go for it and please try and get yourself a job so you can settle for the rest of the months. good luck in your search for a job |

If you have a co-signer (someone that will promise to pay rent if you do not) then you wont have any problems. |

I faced this problem about two years ago. A few places turned me down but I found a place that would. I had to pay three months up front and provide bank statements but they gave me an apartment. So its possible. They also made sure that I got a job...they were harrassing me before I was even due to pay them again. Good Luck! |
