I am sorry about that, but housekeeping is not a law. There is no possible way any legal entity will enforce house cleaning.
However, there is a loophole if they have any children. If kids are involved you might try giving CPS a call. |

I don't think you can unless you have a health inspector come and see if it is a health violation.. or if they have children. |

As a tenant, what am I required to do?
* Throw out your trash in a clean and safe manner;
* Use all fixtures (such as lights and ceiling fans) and appliances in a reasonable and safe manner;
* Don’t damage the apartment;
* Don’t disturb your neighbors;
* Make sure your family members and guests act appropriately;
* Provide your landlord with reasonable access to your unit (see below); and
* Obey all the lawful provisions of your lease agreement.
Can I be evicted for failing to do these things?
Yes
Please refer to Evictions for more information. http://www.tenants-rights.org/index.php?page=evictions |

You can evict renters according to whatever is written in the lease, or is within Illinois state law.
If the renters are on a month-to-month basis, you can evict them with the 30-day notice and give no reason.
If they are violating your lease (any part of it) you can evict with a 10-day notice.
I suggest next time you select tenants, collect their prior landlord information and CALL THOSE FORMER LANDLORDS.
There's no lease? Only a handshake agreement? Then they are on month-to-month by default, and you would use the 30-day WRITTEN eviction notice and process. Simply standing in the driveway shouting at them to leave will not be enough! |

Evict them...that's your only recourse.
EDIT: Also .. if there are children involved..you can call child protective service and report them.
BTW...Ignore the tenants that respond...telling you it's none of your business how YOUR property is kept. |

I hope you have a provision in the lease as to condition of the property, and if they are actually ruining your house you should be able to evict them, of course the laws are different in every state and some favor tenants so heavily I would never own a rental in the state. |

I actually beleive u can just evict them for being dirty, if they do not obey the rules you state (you should state they need to be clean to stay there) and then if they dont listen you can evict them! :D |

If their place is an actual health hazard, then the health department would be interested. But it would have to be very bad indeed. Just not keeping it clean is not grounds for eviction, and you should mind your own business. |

you should check with the local housing authority for tenant/landlord rights. Have you talked to them about it? You can't just throw someone out for living like a pig unfortunately. But if they cause major damage to the house or continue to live like slobs, take pictures and record anything you feel would be relevant in case you have to go to landlord court. As the owner of the property, you do have a right to go there unannounced if you are there to fix something, or check the meters etc. |

It probably depends upon how "dirty". Renters can be difficult to evict you are probably stuck with them til their lease is up. You could also try sending them a letter explaining what you expect of them to maintain their unit. |

You can report to Child Protective Services if they have kids. If they are breaching your contract (you have a lease, right?) by not maintaining their place in a sanitary way, you can take them to court. If you kick them out, prepare to pay a lot of money when they sue you. |

If it's a lease, then your SOL until the end of it. If it's reached the end and it's month to month, then give them their 30 day notice. |
