That's crazy. What you do at home can't be compared to your job. That's no one's business. If you haven't paid your rent your land lord has to follow certain steps and calling your job isn't one of them.

Your landlord can contact your employer and also tell them why. It isn't slander unless its untrue. If your not paying your rent that's a big problem and he is gonna put the heat on you until you do. Sorry.

That would be a NO!!! Get your employer to sign a notarized letter explaining that your landlord "explained your finances" with him. You have legal grounds to pursue your landlord with. No credit card collections dept can tell anyone except the card holder... Same principle applies to your landlord.

I wouldn't think so but you need to look at your rental contract very closely; if you signed a contract saying your wages could be garnered to collect unpaid rent then your landlord most certainly can.

I assume they can if they file for a garnishment of your wages - but usually they have to get an order from the court to do that & usually they have do that during the time they are filing to have you evicted. If those aren't the circumstances it probably isn't something they should be doing.

i am pretty sure that he will not be allowed to divulge any information about you to a 3rd party without your consent, and if he does you have grounds to take him to court.

Would you like to own the place you now rent? I'd sue the landlord if he contacted my employer. As a realtor I don't do rentals, but we do have property managers who handle situations like this. The right way to go about this if someone does not pay rent is eviction NOT taking away their livelihood! If they call your employer than get an attorney right away. The court system may garnish your wages but certainly not your landlord.

This answer depends solely on if you gave him the right to contact them and didn't realize it. Many rental applications as for a bunch of information. Relatives, boss information, bank information, etc.

In these applications you grant the landlord the right to contact these people. Depending on how the application was set up, you may have given the landlord the right to contact these people in the future in case of emergency. This is where it gets on very shaky ground. What constitutes an emergency? Is it an emergency for the landlord if you don't pay your rent? Possibly. In the applications I have I specifically state that non-payment of rent is an emergency. While I have this in there for my protection, I have never contacted an employer of one of my tenants for non-payment of rent.

I give a notice to quit immediately upon non-payment of rent unless the tenant has contacted me to say they are going to be late. I would then file eviction paperwork if I didn't hear from the tenant to make arrangements for payment.
