Christmas caroling door-to-door?
Would it be Ok for door-to-door christmas caroling in apartment buildings? Should we get approval from landlord/building managers?

you should probally get approval.
even though its not a big deal.
but some people are so RUDE.

Expert Realtor
I wouldn't do it at apartment complexes or anyone's house that you didn't know.

Our church does caroling, but we go to homes of people associated with the church.

To me, it's not only a safety issue, but consideration for other tenants that may not welcome the music.

I would also wager that an apartment complex would tell you no, for the main reason that not everyone in the complex is going to be Christian.

I would really worry if someone complained about Christmas caroling. What kind of a scrooge would do that?

yeah i think that would be okay i would check with the apartment people if they dont want you to go to another neighborhood that is safe

I would get approval just in case.It sounds really nice and fun.

Classy Granny
I think that would be really nice and a lot of fun. Still you better get permission from management. Some people are to touchy about Christmas.

Before I respond, I would like to declare that I am in no means a scrooge or poor sport. I do find it interesting that you, along with everyone else who has responded thus far, seems to think this is normal/acceptable behavior. I'm 30 years old and have never actually seen this. I thought it was something you only see in movies. I know that if this happened to me, the next time I saw my friends it would be a topic of conversation.

With that said...
Going from house to house seems like a reasonable thing to do. The problem with doing this in an apartment building is that, most likely, every apartment dweller is going to be subjected to the same caroling for every apartment at least on that floor of the building and possibly for above and below floors. To think that the person in apartment B isn't going to hear the caroling going on in apartment A across the hall and apartment C, D, E, F, G, H, and I down the hall isn't realistic. Not everyone works and operates on the same hours. If you're caroling on a floor with 9 apartments and one person works at night and sleeps during the day, this may be deemed very inconsiderate and obnoxious.

Perhaps you should consider caroling not for each apartment, but for each floor of the apartment building.

pls dont

In a secury building where you need to be buzzed in by the tenant you plan to visit I would say do not do it unless you actually know tenants in the building.
You might want to consider just Christmas caroling from outside the building. Would you be heard through the apartment windows? You may not be heard through the windows at my complex

I think you should because some people may not like the singing and may get angry. plus that some people may not celebrate christmas.

why not? unless someone asks you to leave (disturbing the peace or what not-which isn't likely to happen) most people enjoy carolers. unless theres some old grinch there, it shouldn't be a problem.

I would be upset...how dare you all assume that we all enjoy listening to out of tune carolers...I am a devout athiest...I dont want your beliefs pushed on me...expect some door slamming if you come to my apt...
