You may get a portion paid if your income falls below a certain level, but even with no income, no one gets free rent.

You are entitled to go on the waiting list for a council house regardless of your circumstances, but housing benefit (where the rent is paid by the council) is a means tested benefit and is only available to those on low incomes or other state benefits.

If the total household income is less than £16k per year, you are entitled to housing benefit which will give you a reduction in your rent and possibly council tax also.

you can get help with the rent if you are unemployed or on a low income-ask at the benefits office or the council office for possible help with council tax

bud
If it was possible everyone would be doing it, no you can`t

Courtney's mummy
No way. If you have an income of less than About 16 thousand then you may be able to get help towards the rent but they will not pay it all for you

you can live in a council house and work just pay the rent and bills like alot of people that currently do that

starlight
no, if your working at all you have to pay your rent and council tax in full. only if your on a very low wage or benefits will you be entitled to any kind of housing benefit

charabc123
You get housing benefit which pays your rent to the council if you are unemployed or are not working full time. If you are working full time of course you have to pay your rent....housing benefit is for people on low income.
