There seems to be a co-relation between the unemployed and those living in social housing. In other words the percentage of unemployed is higher than those living in private accomodation.
There is probably less of an incentive for those living on benefits in social housing to actively seek employment and this I think the criteria that will be used.
Each case I'm sure will be reviewed in the light of individual circumstances which will vary in every case.
I personally know of one individual living in council housing who has not done a day's work in the last 8 years claiming incapacity benefit and yet he enjoys his mornings in the pub - at least he's in there whenever I pass by. I've also seen him doing heavy manual work in the garden and around the house.
There will be good reasons why people are unable to work no matter where they live, be it private or social housing.
I can see no justification for spongers living in social housing on benefits when they are capable of work, particularly in view of the chronic shortage of housing. |

Fear not, it will never happen. |

Only less than 1/5 of social housing households work - that includes:
Disabled People
Retired People
Single Parents
and people who are ill.
( without being rude to people suffering the pain of mental illness - if you want to work along side an actively mentally ill person - become a nurse because I don't need the extra stress)
People who seem to the angriest about other people getting 'handouts' are often the middle earning couples who shove their children into daycare and put their god MORTGAGE first, they criticize other people without knowing their circumstances.
You can make all the assumptions you want about what you think you see going on around you.
When you actually meet people who fit into the categories you have made up - they become exceptions to the rule because they are real human beings and quite nice actually.
Before you get angry about what you perceive other people are getting remember they are getting it because they are disadvantaged in some way.
If you are not - be thankful and don't criticize others until you have actually walked in their shoes.
In America - families with children sleep in cars and night shelters and people are reduced to the humiliation of vouchers and crap free food to feed their families.
While it is only my belief I do not think there are many people who make claiming a career and most disadvantaged people would love a job but lack the confidence to start the journey. |

woo hoo!!
its a bit harsh!
the simplistic scenario is :- you don't work, you lose your house, you become homeless, council/social landlord have to rehouse you - you don't work, you lose your house, etc etc
i'd rather they booted out the tenants that behave in an anti-social manner and make other residents lives hell. |

lol.... If that were to happen, pretty soon there would be thousands of empty houses, property prices would plummet, developers would go bust, there'd be recession and depression.... and the outcome?...... No jobs for anyone! |

From what I understand you have to promise to seek employment ... like picking up your weekly goverment hand out..... to get a handout house do the same just promise the same......whats the big deal ..... the goverment has been known to lie from time to time. |

The government cannot do this at th moment, they would need some sort of go ahead following a big political debate.
It is really stupid.
Any people who say stuff like 'Oh, its a good idea, it'll stop people from being lazy etc.' are obviously extrememly ignorant to the fact that there are many reasons in which people cannot got work no matter how hard they try. There are also so many other reasons. I would be here all night if I were to type them ALL but I think all you clever people out here will know what I am talking about!..

No , It's against the current law , and would need new legistation. You cannot throw a family out who have a child under a certain age, and if it did go ahead then there would be countless ppl who are homeless.
Sounds like a good idea but it cant work . |

I dont think it's a bad idea for single people who are just sitting in council property doing nothing when those properties could be used for families....there are estates near me which are full of young single men and women who have "social problems" ..(read drugs) and so are housed BEFORE mothers and Fathers with babies!
So wrong. |
