Criminals are not a protected group. It is legal to deny them housing. Also ANY falsehood on an application negates their rights, even if in a protected group.

most applications state that all information is true, and if they did not answer true it is automatic denied
surly you checked his credit to, and it was bad tell him his credit was also to low (if it was) for qualifying
and yes he can report but it won't get anywhere if you have good records. |

He has a criminal history, what does that tell you about his character. He's talking about suing but he can't sue. He lied...it's as simple as that. He knows how quickly people cave when lawsuit and discrimination are brought up. Let him try to sue...you can countersue for lying on the application. False info on a legal document. |

I'm certainly no attorney, but I seriously doubt it since he lied. I say he's just bluffing and trying to get you to change your minds through empty threats. Be kind of hard for him to find a lawyer to take his case if he lied on his application. |

Every rental application that I have signed at the end says something like " All information that I have provided is true to the best of my knowledge." Or something to that effect. If he signed it, then he lied and he probably won't find an attorney to help him! He's just bluffing. |

If you stipulated that you do not accept folk in your condominium, who put "falsehoods" on their tenant applications, then you have a legal leg upon which to stand. Plus, this person apparently hid their criminal background for a serious reason. Still, I would cover you legally by getting some "free advice" from a lawyer as to what "grounds" this fellow "thinks" he has. I feel that you will be comforted by your "findings." I wish you well. Check the laws in your area. Most areas have laws to protect you, and your asso will be fine. He is probably bluffing. Your condo Asso. should have an attorney on retainer, check with him. |
