Kimbo!!
Do I have to wait 4 years to get a house!?!?
Me and my boyfriend just moved to Baltimore, MD and got our own apartment. We are both only 21. I lived with my parents my whole life (they live in PA, but work in Baltimore) My dad got my boyfriend a job in Baltimore (thats the reason we moved)
Currently, I am just starting to attend school for dental hygiene. I dont work but im looking for a part time job. My boyfriend has that job that my dad got him, it pays very well, and hes been there for 3 months now. Heres the thing...
I HATE THIS APARTMENT!!!!!
I hate everything about it, and i can only have a cat! Im allergic to them. I want a DOG! And most importantly- I want my own house!!!
I saw alot online that are like 145,000 and it said 600 some a month, and thats what we pay now for rent. I want to get a house but my mom said besides needing downpayment, my boyfriend and I would never be able to get a loan. I am still a student with no job, and my boyfriend has terrible credit and has back rent, past cell phone bills, 40,000 in student loans to pay and they keep calling us lol, and medical bills to pay, so his credit is down the drain...
Ill be in school for 4 more years and I really dont know how long Im going to have to wait. Any ideas!?!?!

First take a deep breathe, the world isn't coming to an end because you can't afford a house of your own. Good things in life come with planning. You talk house, but you also talk dog? Priorities first. What you could consider is looking for a townhouse with a small yard to have a small dog. However, make sure you have covered your first priority and that's good credit, bills paid on time, affordable townhouse, not something beyond your means. Think about the current state of our economy, if folks hadn't lived beyond their means, we might not be in this mess. Your young, it will take you awhile before you can afford your own home. But work toward that goal with the same jest you find in wanting a dog! I do wish you luck, but seriously consider your priorities and work toward the goals. You'll be fine, you'll make it. Just keep priorities on an even affordable keel! HUGS

start to grow up...just cause you want it doesn't mean you get it...some of us wait and save money to get the things in life we want...

I am guessing closer to 10 years.

Your mom is right, you'll never be able to buy a house. You not having a job and your boyfriend's credit is a killer! Like the person says above, "more like 10 years" probably! Oh, and you say he owes "40,000 in student loans to pay and they keep calling us lol" it's probably not so "lol". They keep calling you because he isn't paying his bills, duh! Sounds like a loser...

Sounds like the first step you need to take is to grow up and change your attitude. Having creditors calling you is nothing to "lol" about! It's something he *should* be ashamed of and want to fix as quickly as possible.

Sounds like the next step is to be patient. Get your boyfriend's credit repaired, and get yourself out of school and into a good paying job. Then start saving. By the time you've got your down payment saved up, maybe your boyfriend will have gotten himself out of that hole he dug himself into, and the two of you can work together to qualify for a mortgage.

2 yrs ago you could have bought a house. But those days are long gone. Pay off your dept and save for a down payment. HOPEFULLY in 4 yrs you will be ready. You are still very young. How about finding a house to rent. At least you will be out of the apartment and can possibly find someone willing to rent to someone with a dog. There are excellent rental opportunities now on homes since many are not selling.

gonna be alot longer than that. it takes up to 7 years to get bad credit removed from the credit report, and slow pay is just as bad. so 7 years from when he gets it all paid off. unless you find someone dumb enough to sell you a house on contract for deed without doing a credit check. and if they do, have a lawyer check for a balloon clause saying that after 2 years of renting to own you must pay the remaining amount within 60 days of the 2 year anniversary or get out. yeah they sneak those in. and no you don't get the deposit back. then you would have the issue of trying to find someone who will rent to a dog owner. and that is tough. check and see if they will let you have a small dog that won't get much bigger than a cat, they too can be litter trained, and crate trained.
and sorry to tell him but you can't file bankruptcy on student loans, and if they were threw the government programs, then he can go to jail for them if he waits more than a year with no effort to pay.

just make sure you have enough money to keep paying for it you only have to pay the first month and call them,

so yeah you could

Good Luck!!!
