basset hound | Do americans realise they will never own a house,,,?? |
Has any american realised they will never be able to own a home most times if they belong to the working class? If U do not have the millions in your account, u will have to sell it when U grow old let alone leave it to your children? The property tax will rob U of all U have annually & U end up in a nursing home.
Many end up homeless is the reason. HOw can U stop this "daylight robbery" ? Property tax sum for house owners is inconsistent & not based on same rates annually for size of land & not the looks & size of house in each location.
HOW CAN THIS BE CHANGED & WILL THEY EVER REVIEW THIS? |

I know what you are saying! It all seems so senseless buying a house only to have the life sucked out of you with taxes. Where I live home owners are the only ones who pay taxes! They have tried to change it but can't because all the people who do not own homes vote against any tax reform and others having to pay! Every town, state, and community is different and can charge what they want that has been voted by the people. I do not think this will ever change, as you know the only really sure things in life are taxes and death! I am going to buy a tent, that will fix them!! |

It'll change by next year. Home prices started to come down slightly recently with record breaking slump in home sales. With record breaking number of foreclosures, and Burnarke's statement of raising interest rate by few additional points by end of this year, by summer next year, average home prices should be about 70% of today's outrageously high prices. |

Current ridiculously-high home prices are just an illusion. People think it's a real cause of false propaganda spread by realtors & investors. Dont' believe it. Everything goes in cycle. It'll come down soon. |

LOL...I just bought a house and property taxes are the least of my issues. Trust me, it's not going to be property taxes that make me "homeless." Planning for your retirement is what is important...that is what most people neglect to do while they are in their working years. If people don't set aside money for their retirement, it is likely that they might live in near poverty once they are no longer working. |

I know what you mean, I am single, no kids, and Im only 23, but I feel that the only way I will ever be able to afford a house is if I live with someone else to help pay for it. Thats not fair. Its like get married or live on the streets. So thats why Im going to school, but still, I feel if you work for a living, you should be able to afford a decent place to live, and OWN it. & to Lori K, I only buy what I absolutley need & I can barley afford that, so youre nuts if you think its so easy for everyone. |

I can't understand your point of this question. People are interpreting your question/declaration many different ways.
There is no way to stop this "daylight robbery" the only way to stop it is for people to pay their home off and for real estate taxes not to exist. Oh yes, and not to pay home owners insurance. Then and only then will your home be trully "free and clear"
This will not happen. To stop property tax will effect your townships tax dollars. To stop your home owners insurance will leave your a$$ flapping in the wind when you are robbed, there's damage or there's a fire.
I don't know what your question/declaration is but I don't understand it and what I can make of it, I don't agree with it.
Cheers
Oh and by the way, people can appeal their real estate taxes with their county assessor. If they don't like it, they usually relocate. |

#1. Don't panic.
Americans can choose to buy a house elsewhere `( in another country) which would deplete tax revenues- perhaps if enough did this, they would change the 'system'.
I'm kinda joking here since moving to another country isn't interesting or viable(or necessarily easy) for many.
But , then.... Consider that there many alternatives to home ownership, which is not necessarily the best option for everyone, such as cohousing and cooperative housing projects (a triplex or bigger jointly owned by residents).
These alternative housing movements have no doubt arisen and gained popularity and momentum due to the issues you have raised... and more options than these are out there if you look for them. Have an open mind + investigate them fully.
These things I've listed really work well, I've heard.... |

I agree 100%. Unless you've owned your home for at least 3-4+ years, you can't buy one at current outrageously high prices. Historically home prices have been going up about 6% per decade through the cycles. But recently it went 300% in 2 years. This is due to the sub-prime lending which came to light few years ago. Due to record breaking number of foreclosures and some of these entities going bankrupt because of it, lenders started to be more cautious about giving out these types of loans. I agree with the previous post. Everything goes in cycle. Home prices are headed down. |

It isn't that hard to own a house. I guess it depends on where you live and what your spending is like. If you waste money on things like designer clothes, manicures, hairstyles, and eating out, yes, it is going to be hard for you to manage to buy a house. Everyone I know owns a house and none of them have millions, all of them work, all of them have kids. Some make a lot of money, most do not. It all depends on you and your priorities and what you want to do witht the money you have.
Property taxes are very necessary. Do you even know what they pay for? |

You probably also complain about not having enough local government services. Propoerty taxes help pay for all the local services, street, lighting, schools, etc. It is not a perfect system, but nothing is.
Working class never being able to own a home. Baloney. I bought my first house at 20 years old after being told I would never be able to afford one. Interest rates were at 16 1/4 percent (early eighties). You just have to be creative and be willing to find a small starter home.
I never went to college. Worked for others. Started my own business and have worked hard. You have to work hard to make it.
I now own two homes that are completely paid for and a third with about $250,000 equity.
I have family that spend every dollar they make and have nothing to show for it. It can be done. Stop complaining, start working and live the american dream. |

You are nuts. My 22 year old daughter just bought a house and she's only employed part time. It might not be a "mansion" but it's a quite respectable townhouse and a good starter home for a kid. How did she do it? She doesn't have cable OR a cell phone OR a new car ( a very old one that she got 6 years ago) OR satellite tv OR credit card bills or a playstation (or any other silly game). She doesn't buy designer clothes. She doesn't go on vacations. She doesn't go bar hopping. She saves her money and amassed quite a down payment over the past 4 years.
Her best friend and her husband are already on their 2nd house...this time in a gated community.
The trick is that you can't have EVERYTHING that you want ALL THE TIME. So many of you young people are soooo spoiled. I blame your parents. Learn to sacrifice and get what you want like the adults did. Homes aren't just handed out....you have to earn them and sometimes that takes a few years.
*******
Look at all the "thumbs down" because I DARED to suggest that our spoiled youth sacrifice for something they want. How dare I? LOL. |
