I always contact the current and previous landlord, your current one may be glad to be rid of you and give a good reference the prior landlord is more likely to be truthful if you are/were a less than desirable tenant |

I ask if any problems. Would they rent to them again? Late pay? Complaints from neighbors? Damaged or condition of unit when they moved out? |

Yes, they do. They want to make sure you paid your rent on time and didn't trash the place. I got my current apartment based strictly on what my last landlord told the office manager since I have bad credit. |

oh yes. they can tell them:
if you rented from them...
the dates you rented....
and
if they would rent to you again. |

Yes they might call previous landlord, and they will probalby verify your job and do a credit check. They will ask if you paid on time, broke the lease, or damanged the property. |

Yes. When I was an apartment manager, the only questions we would ask were: Did they pay rent on time? Were there any problems? How long you rented? Would you rent to them again?
If we had a "trouble tenant", we would not tell another complex calling that there were problems. It was wrong, but we just wanted them out of our unit and off our property. |

Yeah, they will usually ask for reference info from your previous landlord and ask how you were as a tenant, if you paid your rent on time and how long you lived there. |
