Do leasees have to pay for water?
rental accommodation, houses/flats. Who pays the water rates?

Watch out!
I don't have to pay water.

austentatiousworrier
The tenant is responsible for the water use component if the property is metered separately. If you live in an apartment then the chances are that it's not and strata cover the bill (then the owners pay it as part of their strata levies).

If you live in a house then yes absolutely - water use is your responsibility.

In terms of water rates, these are the owners responsibility as they also cover sewage access. The owner normally pays the bill in full and then the tenant is invoiced separately for water use.

fantime
yes

It depends on ur lease, but in my opinion more times than not water IS included in the rent. One reason it's usually paid for is because the water bill is inexpensive. So even if you have to pay for it, it should be the least of your worries, at least when it comes to bills.

I rent in QLD and I have to pay for water over a certain limit. ie. so many cents per KL

It probably depends on where you live.

In my experience, the water rates and bills have been paid by the landlord. BUT most will have a 'cut-off point' where you then pay the excess charges.
So if you are allowed 10 litres of usage paid by the landlord, but you in fact use 12, then you will need to pay the outstanding 2 litres. (I know that example is a bit far off in measurements!)
Hope this helped!

usually the owner or apartment complex does unless it noted in your lease

Usually it is included in the rent. When a tenant rents an apartment the water, sewer, and taxes are part of the rent. The rest depends on the rental agreement between tenant and landlord.

marie21
everyone pays for the water

It depends on the lease. In my previous apartment, yes, the water bill was in my name. In this one, nope, it goes under the name of the condo association. Ask your landlord or leasing agent.

Libby
Depends on your rental agreement.

It all depends on the terms of the lease, and can vary from property to property.
