In general you want to dress as well if not slightly better than your client/meeting attendants, and without knowing how your client is dressing, it is better to be safe and dress well. |

Of course not, wearing a suit is definitely not required. As a real estate agent, you are actually a contractor, which is why you recieve a 1099, rather than a W-2. This makes you your own boss, giving yourself your own leeway on what you do, what you wear, how you act, etc.
But if you just get a real estates license, you still need to work under a broker. This means that if you work for the broker and if you are in the office and the broker requires you to wear a suit, then yes, you must wear a suit.
Of course, wearing a suit gives people the impression that you are a professional and that you know what you are doing. So wearing a suit is definitely something you want to be wearing when it comes to dealing with clients. People don't like dealing with someone who will be helping them sell or buy a home, if they are wearing flip flops a white shirt and shorts. You know?
So if that is something you want to do, go for it. But know wearing a suit isn't required, just expected. |

The dress requirements for the job depend entirely on the managing broker of the firm. As a managing broker of my firm, I advise agents to dress 'for the occasion'. Depending on the nature of the client, they sometimes appear wearing $2000 suits, and other times, they appear in polos and khakis.
If there is a specific dress code required, that is up to the managing broker. |

I deal with a broker, and I had to think about what he wears.
And, I don't think I have ever seen him in a suit. He dresses like I do when we meet, jeans and polo shirts.
I think it depends on who you want as clients. My broker takes a very definate approuch, he asks like an uncle or something, someone to help me make good choices and make $. I would venture to guess that he dresses differantly with other clients, he has me down pat though. I do not like "showy" things, I am very modest in my lifestyle. |

I manage a condominium complex, and our realtor does not wear suits, unless he has a meeting. He usually wears a nice polo shirt and Dockers, or a nice Hawaiian print shirt on weekends. He stays clean and neatly trimmed, and he does very well. |

When I was managed a mortgage company I refused to allow people to wear ties. But thats my opinion. Yes they had to be neat and clean etc. I dont see it as a requirement to wear a suit. Once you have been in the business for awhile you can get away with alot.
People pay you for your knowleged not that you have a nice suit. Read everything, study all the markets. You will make 10 times more for what you know then how you dress. |

if i's 90 degrees and you're showing a client a farm, obviously not, but for the closing of the deal, yes, a suit makes a professional impression. |

My office doesn't require a suit or tie. We also can celebrate dress down Friday if we want. But if I know I'm meeting a client that arrives dressed up, I wear a suit that day. If I'm showing property where it is likely we are going to be stomping around pastures, very casual. In some cases, if you spend a fair amunt of time on job sites, you would be laughed out in a suit. So, the climate of your office should dictate your attire. |

OK, I feel better now.
The only time 99.9% of realtors wear suits is when they took that one photo. Many of them dress very, very poorly. Hence my laughter.
Many times, you're driving around alot, sometimes getting dirty in basements and garages, etc...
Plan to dress business-casual. A decent shirt, decent pair of slacks and off you go. A tie never hurts, but is generally unnecessary.
Think about how you'd want someone to look if you were thinking of using them. I don't know I'd want the slick suited realtor. But someone who is clean, pressed, but able to move around, that'd be just fine by me. |

You are thinking of getting your "Real Estate" license. Once you have your license you can look into joining your local and/or national "Realtors" organizaion.
I am not aware of any firm that makes wearing a suit a requirement. I know agents that wear suits daily and some that just dress nicely. Remember to dress for "Success". |
