i work for a major agency. We get 2.5 % on a sale and split it with the agency. So a 300,000 sale will get me 1.25% or $3750. If you have a brokers licence you can open your own buss. and keep the 2.5% but you then have all your own expenses. Some places charge you a desk fee and you keep the commision. Some agents discount.
Some agents do great, some like me just limp along. It's a low initial cost occupation. If you know a lot of people from an organization you belong to, you might have a chance. |

The rule of thumb is.. 10% of the agents make 90% of the commissions.
I've found in any sales job the amount of success is directly affected by the size of the salesperson's family. If you've got a big family, you'll get more leads. (Family members usually make great "birddogs").
In addition, they'll buy from a cousin, nephew etc. before they'll buy from a stranger.
So if you've got a big family, go for it. If your family is small or disfunctional head on down to Mac Donald's, they pay their managers pretty well. |

Usually a real estate agent in a good firm makes 6-10% of the sale price of a home. They dress nice and have nice cars not only because they are well-paid but because they need to cultivate the image that they are a businessperson. |

Well I think that they are overpaid for what they do, example: a house sells for $500K the commission is 6% = $30K and it breaks down like this, the listing agent gets 2.5% or $12,500 the buyers agent gets 2.5% or $12,500 and the broker gets 1% = $5,000 so you tell me do you think that they deserve to get that much money from your investment that you have been making the payment on. My agent on my last sale received this commission for printing flyers (about $50) and processing the standard forms needed for the sale. OVERPAID and cutthroat as lawyers. |
