Do you consider 5,000 square feet a decent size house?
I'm curious. My friend said his house is 5,000 square feet. I've never been there, but he's described it kind of to me.

It is considered very large, yes. An average home is around 2500 sq ft.

Real Estate Guy
I''m betting he is counting the basement. The basement is not counted as sq footage. If this is the case, then the actual size is around 3200. Nice size home.

But it's not the size, but the use of space.

Rick B
5000 square feet is huge. Even in the Houston suburbs where housing is cheap, the larger houses are around 3,000. That;s for four bedrooms, a study, 4 baths, and two formals.

yep

That's more than 5 times the size of my 2 bedroom apartment, so yes, that's a good sized house.

That would be a big house and expensive for utilities.
Usually you only include the finished area in square feet and not any basement that is unfinished.

sup
compared to my home it is quite small.
