Do you hate viewing apartments that people are living in before renting?
...like when going to see a place that is coming on the market in a few months and the place is still fully lived in? Do you hate being a tenant in that situation as well.....

YES, BUT WHAT'S WORSE IS WATCHING TV WHILE THE OWNER SHOWS OFF THE APARTMENT! IT HAPPENED TO ME WHEN I GOT MY FIRST JOB OUT OF COLLEGE! THE OWNER DECIDED TO SELL THE JOINT, VERY UNCOMFORTABLE!

Maria S
no because it is the same place where they lived before and i would make it like it is home sweet home

Not really, I have always spruced the place up, ensure it is immaculate and usually leave an infuser out so it smells like fresh baking or some other pleasant odor. also i will high tailed it for the day, or if I haven;t been given notice excuse myself and ask the landlord to lock up. this ensures that no more than a handful of strangers will wander through my place before the landlord finds a tenant.

Tenants do not like it. Sometimes they become hostile and surly, resentful and jealous that you are in a position to make money and they are not.

do u know what is worse? i used to work part time for a building and the policy was 30 days before your lease is up, the owner or employee of the building was allowed to show the apartment, i had to knock on peoples doors and ask to be let in with a potential leasee, half of the time people were bothered that i didn't call or anything! I just got the apartment number and she never gave me, not there personal number! what is worst is when people are total pigs, and u have to make excuses for them. Happy hunting anyway!

Yes, it can be uncomfortable. As a manager, I don't like showing occupied units either. However, since most of our tenants viewed their units occupied too, they are usually very cooperative -- especially if they want someone to take over the lease or the rest of the 30-day period.

Landlords have the right to show the apartment and attempt to re-rent their property as soon as possible. That's the whole point of the rental business -- keep units rented as much as possible. It's not greed. It's business.

Tenants have the right to be present during showings -- especially considering that these are strangers going into the unit.

There are advantages to viewing an occupied unit too. It's helpful to see how furniture and a real person uses a unit. Also, the prior tenant can tell you what the management is like.

My landlord actually had me show my own apartment...
Which I didn't mind but I can't image that be comfortable for the other people

Yes. That's an uncomfortable situation all around. The owners should wait to show the place when NO ONE is home (at least) or when it has been vacated and cleaned. It's just greed on the owner's part that makes them want to sell the property with it occupied, so they don't lose any money in between renting and selling.
