Do you have to be married to buy a house together?
My boyfriend and I have been thinking of renting a house together, then we thought it would be a better idea to spend 600.00 a month on a house payment rather than throwing it away on rent. Can he and I buy a house together, in both our names even though we're not married? Will we be able to get a loan together for the house? Please, give me some advice, or maybe where I can find some literature to read up on.

Nope. Both names appear. Both share financial responsibility. You could buy a house with your sibling if you so choose. Marriage status has nothing to do with it. Go talk to a loan officer at your bank about their loans for details.

Note...We bought our first house together before we got married. My name and her maiden name appeared on the paperwork. That was July, we married in October.
It has no bearing wether you are married or not.

You can buy the house with both your names on the deed. Getting a loan may be a problem; entirely up to the lender. After the sub-prime scandal, lenders are very cautious. If you can find one, the interest rate may be higher than for a married couple.

No you dont have to be married to buy a house together but you should think about the what if's of the situation.

of course you can.. if both of you are putting in money, both names go on the paperwork, and you become co-owners...

the problems will come , if you break up....

Whatever You Say!!
No you don't have to be married. But just incase you were to break up, you need to have some understanding with your boyfriend.

GOS
no
you can buy a house
but you have to decide whose name to put it in

Yes, 2 unmarried co-borrowers can buy a house together, but you will both have to pay application fees and that is usually about $50 each. It is easy to get one together, but if you don't end up staying together who will get the house? That will be the headache.

You can but being married sure helps.

Also, why in the world would you 'commit' to a 30 yr mortgage and not 'commit' to a marriage. No wonder relationships fail so frequently nowadays.

Being not married will NOT make it easier to 'split' if your name is on the mortgage and deed.
