Do you have to pay for your last day in a rented property?
I left a flat after appropriate notice. We wanted 5 extra days but we have been charged for 6 as we left the property before 0900 AM. The rental office say they charged because I stayed in the flat from midnight. I told them this is rediculous but they said they've always done it this way. Who can handle my complaint if I wanted to make one? Thank you for your help.
After midnight starts another day; you owe for six days.

Always check terms and conditions before you sign any contracts.
Tim
You were still in the property on that date. A day starts at midnight.
Tango
You had 5 whole days in the flat and you left on the 6th so I would say that the rent office is correct.

You are fortunate that they did not charge you for a whole extra month. Most leases have provisions for holdovers. Check your lease.

It all depends on the conditions laid down in the
contract. Check the conditions of your lease.

Yes, you should move out the last day covered by the rent which would have been the 5th day.
Gertie
You have no real complaint you stayed 1 day longer then you asked for pay the bill

Are you mad. I have done a runner loads of times without paying the last week, or in one case the last month. I even blagged and said that my wage had changed to a monthy basis then legged it.
