Do you think it is a good time to buy a house ?
I am nearly 19 and my boyfriend is 21, we have been together 4 years and in the past couple of months we have been looking into buying a house together !

The lady who lives next door to my bf's mum and dad has just passed away and we have always liked the house.
Her daughter has said that if we were interested in the house then we could do the exchange without the help of a estate agent (it would save us both a bit of money). But we would have a Bulding inspector come and see if the house was in good condition.
The house is only a 2 bedroom but is quite big downstairs with a large kitchen, the previous owner was an old lady so the house needs alot doing to it !
What i wanted to know was if you thought it would be a good idea to buy this house when the owner daughter was ready e.g after the funeral and all her belongings were sorted out ?

Thanks
Additional Details
We have been to the bank and are able to get a mortgage / Loan

UK reply.

Don't rush in just because you like the house!
House prices have fallen 16% in the last year and are going to fall another 15% this year.
You need to do your research online/all local estate agents to find out what the market price is. If the daughter's price is reasonably below this then you could get it at the right price.
Don't let your heart rule your head! Look at it as only a commercial transaction!

On anther note do you really want to live next door to your bf's Mum/Dad??????

After all the negatives I wish you all the best and hope it goes through OK for you!

Definately, if you can get a mortgage. House prices will drop more this year but not by as much as they have. Make a silly offer - we reduced a house last week that started at 499K down to 425k!!

Yep, if you can get the loan.

Sounds ideal, bereavement, keen to sell, unmodernised therefore you can get a good price, low interest mortgages available, go for it, unless you are overstretching yourselves, good luck!!

Its a Great time to buy a house - if you can afford it - I would advise that you buy a brand new house - the builders a begging people to buy them just now with some crazy deals ...like paying all your bills for a year inc.Mortgage council tax etc & free carpets & white goods etc....

This is really down to what the relatives of the deceased want to do, they may well want to offer on the open market through an estate agent to get the best price (remember its them who the pay the esatate agent fees). I think all you can do is let them know you are interested and see what happens. Are you sure you want to be right next door to your bf's mum and dad?

You need to buy it at the right price--nobody knows what a house like that is worth,if there is a similar one for sale in the same street or one that has sold in the last month then you have a guideline but this recession (depression) has not bitten yet and i believe houses will be 20% cheaper next year as millions of people loose their jobs and savers money runs out due to low interest rates--buy it right and allow for the work to be done in the price that you offer

confused
House prices are dropping so now is a pretty good time. Pick your moment carefully as they may continue to drop.

Yeah as long as you have a place to stay, then that should be fine =] It seems that the lady's daughter likes the idea of you having the house so keep interested in it. However, she is going through grief so don't hassle her, sit back and jsut wait.Decorating and sorting it out will make it more fun for you and your bf. If you can afford it then go for it. No time like the present :)

As well as that, house prices are dropping so now is the time to be buying, you'll find that when they start to increase again you'll feel the benefits.

Good Luck

Only buy it if you are able to get a great deal.

I believe that real estate is going to keep getting cheaper. Also, I believe that interest rates will go even lower.

Good luck.

Sounds like a good idea if you can afford it. What if one of you looses your job? Could you still make the payments on 1 salary? Also do you want the live next door to his parents??? My older brother lives across the street and for the most part that is okay, except when the visitor police calls me and says I saw my bf's (he didnt know) truck in the driveway and man he must have been early for work today (down the street), uh yea he was ( he spent the night!!)

House prices will drop further because it is getting more difficult to get a loan now. You may want to look for some other houses before coming to any decision since the time is with you.

Cheers
